KOSSUTH COUNTY – A Northern Iowa man is charged with neglecting dozens of livestock in Kossuth county.

On September 29th, 2021 the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office responded to 3507 70th Avenue north of Lone Rock, which is the residence of Steve Fischer. The Sheriff’s Office was called there for cattle on the roadway. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the cattle on the property at 3507 70th Avenue, and a building site 1/2 mile north of that address, were being neglected of necessary sustenance.
The Kossuth County Sheriff rescued 85 head of cattle, pursuant to Iowa Code section 717.5, by relocating them to another cattle operation within Kossuth County. The Kossuth County Attorney has filed a petition for disposition of neglected livestock, with a court hearing scheduled at 10:45 am on October 25″ in the Kossuth County District Court. The hearing will determine if the livestock meet the statutory criteria for “neglected livestock” and assess costs for maintenance of the animals while in the care of the local authority.

Steve Fischer has been issued a citation for Livestock Abuse due to failing to provide consistent care and depriving the livestock of necessary sustenance, causing injury and/or death to the livestock. This is a serious misdemeanor with a court date set for December 8, 2021.
