Gail Charlotte Bates, 79, of Burchinal, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the IOOF Home in Mason City, IA.
A Private Funeral Service will be held at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel. Burial will take place in Mt. Vernon Township Cemetery, rural Burchinal.
Should friends desire, memorials may be mailed in Gail’s name to the address of 11851 2nd St, Rockwell, IA 50469.
Gail was born on December 17, 1941, the daughter of Telford and Gladys (Trosthiem) Knutson of Garner, IA. After graduating from Garner High School she attended LaJames Cosmetology School to become a hairdresser. Gail owned her own salon that was attached to their house in Burchinal. She often helped at the Rockwell Nursing Home doing the elderly’s hair. On August 19, 1961, Gail married Lester Bates, from this union four children were born.
Being a wife, mother and grandmother brought Gail the most joy, she loved her family unconditionally. Every Sunday the family would come for donuts, coffee and reading the paper, often sharing great conversations and laughter. Gail was passionate about supporting the Iowa Hawkeyes in basketball and football. The couple enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, as well as sitting out on their deck. When Gail wasn’t spending time with the ones she loved she could be found reading a good book.
Those left to cherish memories of Gail are her husband of 60 years, Lester; children, Brett Bates, Terry Bates and Laurie Duryee, Becky Krull and Jarett Krull; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two siblings; furry friend, Buddy; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great friends.
Gail is preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Bates; granddaughter, Brooke Bates; her parents; as well as daughter-in-law, Kris Bates.
