MASON CITY – NIACC’s Sarah Bertry was selected as the ICCAC Division II women’s cross country athlete of the week for the week Oct. 4-10.
It was the eighth time in her career that Bertry has won the ICCAC weekly award and third time this season.

Last Friday, Bertry won the fifth annual Trent Smith Invite on the NIACC campus in a meet record time of 18 minutes, 32 seconds on the 5-kilometer course. The old mark of 18:44 was held by Waldorf University’s Marissa Kuik in 2018.

Bertry also became the meet’s first-ever two-time champion as she also won the 2020 meet in a time of 19:31.

The 18:32 was a season best by Bertry in the 5K. Her previous best in the 2021 season was 18:50 at the Augustana Twilight meet in the first meet of the season.

NIACC returns to action Friday at the Indian Hills Invitational.
