OBIT: Linda Schmitt

Linda Schmitt, 73, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021 at UPH Allen Memorial in Waterloo, Iowa.

A funeral Mass for Linda Schmitt will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 7, 2021 with a Rosary being prayed at 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville with Reverend Ralph Davis officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Roseville.

Linda Lee Schmitt, the daughter of Bernard and Lillian (Grimm) Schmitt, was born June 30, 1948 in Charles City, Iowa, received her education at Roseville and helped on the family farm.

Linda was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Roseville where she was involved in the St. Mary’s Rosary Society. She enjoyed being at home, baking (cakes and cookies), canning, working word search books, talking on the telephone, watching soap operas, listening to music (especially Johnny Cash and Danny O’Donnell), eating deer sausage and chopped ham, cutting paper into tiny pieces and laminating items for her family. Linda loved children and helped raise a lot of her family and extended family. She always had goodies ready to eat for family Sunday gatherings because she was such a giver and not a taker when it came to her family and life in general. She called in family birthdays and anniversaries so they could be announced on the radio and shared with others. Linda will be greatly missed by all of those who loved her.

Living family members include her brothers and sisters: Albert Schmitt of Charles City, Judy (Dennis) Kapping of Nashua, Susan Schmitt, Diana (Garland) Thompson, Karen (Ed) Olsen, Francis (Betsy) Schmitt, Connie Schmitt, Nancy (Art) Lines, Thomas (Simone) Schmitt all of Charles City, Teresa (Richard) Drilling of New Hampton and Dale (Allison) Schmitt of Charles City; 15 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and great-nephews; along with other family members and friends.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Virgil Schmitt on November 15, 2020; nephew, David Kapping; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
