College Wrestling: Panthers fall to No. 5 Oklahoma State, 20-12

CEDAR FALLS – No. 16 ranked UNI Wrestling fought hard, but fell to fifth-ranked Oklahoma State 20-12 Saturday afternoon at the McLeod Center.

UNI opened the dual with a pair of win at 125 and 133. Brody Teske controlled the entire match and refused to let Trevor Mastrogiovanni score. In the second period, Mastrogiovanni picked bottom position and Teske rode out the entire period and earned a four-point near fall to take a 4-0 lead after two. He earned an escape and ride time to earn the 6-0 win. Teske remains undefeated on the season with a 6-0 record and a 5-0 mark in duals.

Kyle Biscoglia followed the same formula at 133. After going scoreless in the first, he rode out Reece Witcraft in the second period and earned an escape in the third period to take a 1-0 lead and added a ride-time point to earn the 2-0 win.

Drew Bennett fell 4-2 in a tough bout at 4-1. Triston Lara dropped his bout at 141, 14-8. Cayd Lara fell 14-4 and Travis Wittlake topped Pat Schoenfelder 13-4.

Lance Runyon led his bout against Dustin Plott, but the Cowboy wrestler closed the match on a 4-0 run to earn an 8-5 win.

Parker Keckeisen again showed relentless attack against previously undefeated and No. 6 Dakota Greer. Keckeisen attacked and picked up a first-period takedown. Greer scored a pair of escapes to tie the dual at 2-2. In the sudden victory period, Keckeisen attacked almost immediately setting off a wild scramble that ended in Keckeisen rolling Greer over and grabbing the double to earn the takedown and the win. Keckeisen is now 6-0 on the year and 2-0 in duals.

Oklahoma State’s AJ Ferrari earned a 10-4 win over Keegan Moore at 197. The first bout at the weight for the redshirt senior Panther who weighed in at 184.

Carter Isley remained undefeated on the year with a solid win over previously undefeated Austin Harris. Isley grabbed a takedown in every period. With an escape and a penalty point in the third to earn the 8-2 win.

The Panthers fall to 3-2 on the year with their only losses coming against top-6 ranked teams. UNI is back in action against Northern Illinois, Friday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
