OBIT: Lorraine Swenson

Lorraine L. Swenson, 89, died on Friday, January 29, 2021, at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N Pennsylvania Ave. Service will be livestreamed on the Major Erickson Funeral Home Facebook page on Wednesday.

Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, at Major Erickson Funeral Home.

Inurnment will be held in the Elmwood – St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society of North Iowa.

Letha Lorraine Swenson was born on May 8, 1931, to parents Frank and Gladys (LaMaster) Hemrich in Charles City.

She was baptized and raised in the Catholic Church in Charles City and Nora Springs. She was a member of Holy Family Church in Mason City. Following her graduation from Nora Springs High School in 1948, she enrolled at Mason City Junior College where she received her degree in business.

Lorraine went to work for Crocker Claims Insurance Company at the Brick and Tile Building for many years. She then worked for the Mason City Community Schools and finished her working career as a court attendant for the Cerro Gordo County Courthouse.

Lorraine was united in marriage to Kay Robert Swenson on May 23, 1959. From that union they had two sons, Scott and Daniel.

Lorraine was a long time member of the Catholic Daughters of America and had many sorority sisters within that group. She was a Holy Family guild member. Lorraine loved animals and had many dogs and cats over the years. She enjoyed having long conversations with her friends and family and watching old time movies. She cherished her grandchildren and loved watching their sporting events.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Scott (Darla Sachs) of Mason City and Daniel of Iowa City; three grandchildren, Cecily Jo (Fran) Barnaud of Belle Fourche, SD, Robert (Amy) Swenson of Winterset, IA and Pete (Kirsten Spangler) Swenson of Springfield, IL; four great grandchildren, Quinn and Eden Barnaud, Creighton and Ryerson Swenson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
