ESTHERVILLE – A crying woman pleading for help let elite North Iowa cops to track down and nab an armed Estherville man.
On Sunday, October 4th, 2020, at approximately 3:12 PM, Estherville Police Officers were dispatched to 215 South 9th Street for a 911 call regarding a female crying and asking for help. Investigating officers were eventually able to make contact with the female victim and remove her from the residence.
During the investigation, it was determined that the victim had been physically assaulted on October 3rd and still had injuries from that incident. An arrest warrant was then issued for the suspect Joseph Allen Myers age 39 of Estherville. Myers was charged with Domestic Assault/Impeding Air Flow a Class D Felony. It was later determined that Myers may be in possession of firearms and ammunition as a prohibited person. Officers applied for and received a search warrant for the firearms and ammunition for the residence located at 215 South 9th Street.
The HEAT Tactical Team was summoned to execute the search and arrest warrant. At approximately 9:45 PM, the HEAT Team approached the residence and took the suspect into custody without incident. Myers was transported to the Emmet County Jail and will have an initial appearance before an Emmet County Magistrate on October 5th, 2020. Following the execution of the 1st Search Warrant, a 2nd Search Warrant was requested and granted for the residence of Joseph Myers for Drugs and Drug Paraphernalia.
As a result of the warrants, Myers faces additional charges as follows, Possession of a Firearm as a Felon, a Class D Felony; 4 Counts of Possession of Ammunition as a Prohibited Person, each a Class D Felony, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
