OBIT: Kathryn Johnson, 98, of Charles City

Kathryn Johnson, 98, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Funeral services for Kathryn Johnson will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor Norman Bauer officiating. Burial will be at Riverton Cemetery at Midway, north of Nashua.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Kathryn Elizabeth Johnson, the daughter of Olaf and Alice (Bremner) Fods, was born on May 5, 1921 in Mitchell County, Iowa. She attended schools in Charles City. Kathryn was united in marriage to Lawrence Johnson on November 14, 1939 in Austin Minnesota.

Kathryn worked as a waitress and cook for a variety of places including, Club Iowa, Boulevard Café, Dutch Oven Bakery, Starr Hotel, and St. Charles Hotel. She was a member of Cedar Valley Rebekah Lodge, Navy Mothers, Floyd County Volunteers, a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, and a Foster Grandparent for 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and plastic canvas.

Living members include her children: Alice (Carl) Clopton of Sedalia, Missouri, Gene Johnson of Charles City, Cynthia Kinney of Charles City, Lester (Merry) Johnson of Rochester, Minnesota, and Shirley Tobin of Floyd; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, and other family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence; daughter-in-law, Chris Johnson; son-in-law, Charles Kinney; son-in-law, Dick Tobin; sisters: Margaret Hargrave and Ester Mohring; and an infant brother and sister.
