AMES, IOWA – An Ames man is accused of murdering his roommate with a large knife.
At approximately 6:10 PM Thursday evening, November 7, officers with the Ames police department were dispatched to 1210 Walton Drive, apartment 202 for a report of a serious assault. Upon officer arrival, a man was located with life threatening injuries. The victim is identified as Christopher Charles Swalwell, age 37, of Ames. He was taken to Mary Greeley Medical Center and subsequently transferred to Mercy in Des Moines where he later died of his injuries.
The victim’s roommate, David Sean Hunter, age 55, has now been charged with Murder in the 1st Degree, a class “A” Felony. Hunter has also been charged with Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. The initial investigation determined the men were engaged in an argument inside the apartment and the suspect attacked the victim with a large knife. The suspect then threatened to harm a different victim with a knife.
Hunter is now in the Story county jail awaiting court appearance.
