Gov. Reynolds signs Voter Registration Day Proclamation

DES MOINES – Today, Governor Kim Reynolds Gov. signed a proclamation declaring September 24, 2019, as Voter Registration Day in Iowa. Watch the governor’s remarks on social media here.

Registering to vote empowers eligible citizens to exercise their right to vote on Election Day. Iowa is one of the nation’s leaders in voter registration and voter participation, but some eligible citizens have not yet registered. Right now, more than two million residents are registered to vote.

This year, the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office is making a statewide push for high school students to get registered prior to the Iowa Caucuses and the 2020 Primary Elections. The voter registration process in Iowa is easier and more convenient than ever, with online voter registration, Election Day registration and applications available through government agencies across the state.

The Secretary of State’s Office encourages all interested citizens and all appropriate media outlets and civic organizations to participate in this non-partisan voter registration awareness campaign to encourage maximum participation of qualified voters in Iowa.
