One dead, one hurt after bullet strikes moving vehicle in Waterloo

WATERLOO – One woman is dead and another person hurt after a bullet struck a moving vehicle in Waterloo early Sunday morning.

On Sunday, April 28th at approximately 2:30 AM, Waterloo police responded to a report of a possible motor vehicle accident on Highway 218, near the Greenhill Road exit. When police arrived, they found a single vehicle off the roadway on the southbound side of 218, on the Greenhill off ramp. This vehicle was occupied by three adults.

Police say that at this time it appears the vehicle was traveling south on Highway 218 when it was struck by a single gunshot. The bullet entered the vehicle striking 2 of the three occupants. The female driver of the vehicle died at the scene. A male occupant was taken to Allen Hospital for his injuries and later transported to Iowa City Hospital for further treatment. The third occupant was uninjured.

Police are asking anyone with any information regarding this case to contact the Waterloo Police Department.

This is an ongoing investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
