DNR investigating wastewater discharge in Mason City neighborhood

Maker:0x4c,Date:2018-1-19,Ver:4,Lens:Kan03,Act:Lar01,E-Y

MASON CITY – A sewer line collapse in the 300 block of South Rhode Island Ave. is causing the City of Mason City to pump untreated wastewater into the Winnebago River.

The City and their contractor, McKiness Excavating, were unable to complete the repairs to the sewer on Friday and plan to resume working on the repairs on Monday. The affected neighborhood extends east from S. Virginia Ave to S. Kentucky Avenue and south from Highway 122 to 15th Street SE; an area approximately three blocks wide and eleven blocks long.

The sewage is being discharged to a storm sewer that outlets in the Winnebago River near the softball complex on 2nd Street SE.

The DNR asks people to keep children and pets away from the riverbanks near the discharge until 24 hours after repairs are completed.

DNR will continue to monitor the situation and will consider appropriate enforcement action.

Sounds like caseys in Manly – No leech field -drains into ditch along hiway 65 then into the creek about 3 blocks west. Must be nice to have friends in high places.

Water Main has been broken for over a week. Fix Water Main, Main breaks a few feet further. Fix Water Main, Breaks again. Broken Water Main causes collapsed Sewer Main. Sewer Main Plugs from dirt in sewer pipe. Sewers backup into peoples homes. Put Bandaid Fix on Pipes. Claim it is an Act of God when old pipes break. Do the same thing again and again and again.
Mason City City Council Repair Program over the past 25+ years. Same Area has been having this issue for 25+ years.

Just like if the pork plant would have been built here…

Why didn’t they work through the weekend to correct this issue? If it was a farmer they would be all over him.

it always was kind of shitty fishing in that part of the river

Smells like shit, looks like shit, tastes like shit, must be shit.

This will be interesting to follow.
