Convicted domestic abuser leaps from second story window to avoid Mason City police

MASON CITY – A man previously convicted of domestic abuse and suspected once again, leapt from a second story window to avoid Mason City police.

Mason City police were called to 225 14th Street NW in Mason City at 11:17 AM on March 8 to investigate a possible no contact order violation involving 38-year-old Wayne David Lones, Jr. A bystander told NIT, “Pretty sure he was fighting with his wife, drunk.”

According to Mason City Chief of Police Jeff Brinkley, when officers arrived on the scene, “Lones jumped from a second story window at the residence.”

However, Lones’ valiant attempt to maintain his freedom was in vain, as police officers immediately arrested him for violation of a no-contact order.

“He was taken into custody and transported to Mercy hospital for evaluation. Following that, he was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail,” Chief Brinkley said.

Lones, Jr. was arrested in Mason City back on February 21, 2018 for second-offense domestic abuse assault. He is still awaiting arraignment in that case.

This past January, Lones was guilty of a felony drug crime, second-offense possession of marijuana after he was caught by Mason City police back in August of 2017.  He was put on probation for a year and given a year in jail with all but 2 days suspended.  He as caught by Mason City police with marijuana back in April of 2017, as well.

Lones, Jr., has up to five arrests for drunk driving, including a felony conviction, and has spent time in Iowa prisons.
