Health Department wins award from state of Iowa for improving health of employees

MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health is proud to announce the receipt of the Healthiest State Initiative – Small Workplace Award. The Health Department was selected from a group of three finalists and was recognized for advancing efforts to improve the physical, social and emotional well-being of Iowans.

“We are honored to be awarded the small workplace Healthiest State Initiative award as a wellness leader in Iowa. We are grateful that our Department’s leadership has the vision and forethought to invest in employee health and well-being continually and are appreciative of the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative recognizing our commitment to employee wellness,” says Kelli Gerdes, Health Promotion Manager for the Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health.

There were several criteria that the Department met to receive this award including:

– Policies supporting employee health and wellness (flex time, insurance incentives, etc.)
– Environments supporting employee health and wellness (on-site gym, lactation room, cafeteria options, stair promotions, etc.)
– Programs supporting employee health and wellness (health screenings, behavior challenges, education sessions, etc.)
