Nebraska kidnapper caught in Humboldt county

RENWICK, IOWA – A woman was able to escape from her alleged attacker after being brought from Nebraska to Humboldt county, Iowa, using social media to alert family to her whereabouts.

On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at 2:35 AM, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received information of an alleged abduction of a female from Fremont, Nebraska. The young lady used social media to contact friends and family. Deputies from Humboldt and Wright counties were able to locate her at 503 McCurry Street In Renwick, Iowa. The young lady was able to escape the residence and was taken to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital by the Renwick Ambulance Service where she was treated.

Arrested and charged with third-degree kidnapping (a class “C” felony) is Valentin Velez, age 35 of LA Vista, Nebraska. Velez is being held in the Humboldt County Jail. A class “C” felony is punishable up to 10 year in prison.

Assisting the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was the Humboldt County Attorney’s Office, Iowa Division of Criminal investigation, Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa state Patrol, Iowa Department of Narcotic Enforcement, and the Renwick Ambulance Service.
