Immigration hold put on Estherville man after alleged attack in Mason City

MASON CITY – An Estherville man allegedly committed a violent domestic assault Wednesday in Mason City, leading to a federal immigration hold being placed on him.

Mason City police were called to the Gracious Estates trailer court, 777 South Eisenhower Avenue, on Wednesday evening, January 10 at about 6:27 for a domestic incident at a trailer. As a result of an investigation into the physical domestic incident, 30-year-old Jose Sanchez Mendez of Estherville was arrested for aggravated domestic abuse assault involving strangulation.

Sanchez was taken to the county jail, where a federal immigration detainer was placed on him with no bond. He remains there at this time.

NIT reported on two other violent domestic incident this week involving men from Estherville. In one incident, a Minnesota man came to town, got violent and was caught hiding in a closet – twice. In another incident, a man chased and beat his girlfriend while a child was inside a car she was trying to get into.
