MASON CITY – Police attempted to stop a driver in a Mason City neighborhood, but the wanted man attempted to flee at speeds at least 25 miles over the limit.
A Mason City police officer attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Michael Atkins, Jr. at 2:51 AM on January 6, 2018 near 7th Street SW and Jefferson Avenue. Atkins allegedly refused to stop and sped away. Police say he reached speeds at least 25 miles over the posted limit as he eluded the officer and ran at least one stop sign, failed to obey at least one traffic control device, went the wrong way on a one-way street and drove on the wrong side of a two-way highway before he was eventually stopped by law enforcement. Police discovered that Atkins had been wanted on an arrest warrant for allegedly violating a no-contact order in a domestic abuse case, and he had failed to show up in court for other cases involving other charges.
Atkins was charged with eluding, reckless driving, interference with official acts and other traffic violations and taken to jail on the warrants. He remains held as he awaits court dates.

even though he hasn’t appeared in court on the other charges, when his initial appearance for this charge is in court the judge with release him to appear at a future date, which we all know he wont. that’s why there is so many warrants out there, criminals get released and then never appear, what happened to bonds
