NIACC women ranked No. 10 in latest NJCAA Division II poll

MASON CITY – The NIACC women’s basketball team is ranked No. 10 in the fifth NJCAA Divsion II poll released Tuesday.

NIACC (13-3 overall) was No. 2 in the Dec. 5, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 polls. The Lady Trojans were No. 9 in the Oct. 26 preseason poll.

The NIACC women placed fourth in the Illinois Central Cougar Holiday tournament Dec. 28-30. The Lady Trojans topped Kalamazoo Valley CC (122-58) and then dropped a 66-62 decision to No. 7 Illinois Central and lost to No. 8 Owens CC (73-63) in the consolation game.

Monroe CC (N.Y.) is the top-ranked team with a record of 15-1.

Kirkwood (14-3) moved up to No. 2 in in this week’s poll after winning the Illinois Central tournament. Southeastern CC (11-3) is ranked 14th and DMACC (12-3) is ranked 15th.

NIACC opens ICCAC play at home on Saturday against Southeastern. It will be the Lady Trojans’ first home contest since Nov. 26.
