MAHASKA COUNTY, IOWA – An Iowa man died in a plane crash last week in rural Mahaska county.
The pilot that died as a result of an airplane accident in Mahaska County on Saturday, December 23rd, 2017, has been identified as 70-year-old Bruce Gene Devick of Marshalltown, Iowa.
On Saturday, December 23, 2017 at approximately 2:20 PM officials of the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 2082 210th Street in reference to an aircraft that had crashed. Upon emergency personnel’s arrival it was discovered that the pilot was deceased.
The results of the preliminary investigation indicate that the aircraft struck a powerline causing it to crash to the ground. Officials are not speculating on what caused the aircraft to be flying this low. Devick was piloting a single engine, 2-seat light sport airplane when it struck a power line and crashed near 2082 210th Street.
Devick was the sole occupant of the aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration was contacted and assisted the Sheriff’s Office with this investigation. The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by members of the Oskaloosa Fire Department, the Mahaska Health Partnership ambulance services, the Iowa State Patrol and the Mahaska County Emergency Management Agency.
