Man pointing BB gun causes Iowa hospital to go into lockdown

MANCHESTER, IOWA – A man was spotted with what appeared to be a firearm in an Iowa hospital parking lot, sending the facility into lockdown.

The Manchester Police Department with the assistance of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of a subject in the east parking lot of Regional Medical Center. A caller advised there was a male subject in the parking lot with a firearm and he was pointing the firearm at the river. The hospital followed protocol and went into lockdown. When officers arrived they found the subject and the area was secured. Officers found a BB gun in the rear of the truck. The subject advised he had been cleaning out his tool box while waiting for a family member.

No charges were filed, according to Chief of Police James R. Hauschild.

Regional Medical Center is a public, not-for-profit, 25-bed Critical Access Hospital with a Level IV Trauma designation. Their service area spans four counties and approximately 25,000 in population.

How did this reporter come up with cleaning a BB gun when the officer told them he stated he was cleaning his tool box?

Yeah, its getting a little ridiculous.

A story like this pops up every so often. Either bb guns or air soft guns causing the public to go crazy.

If BB guns are causing this much of a problem then maybe they shouldn’t be easily purchased, cause I highly doubt people will stop over-reacting.

I remember bringing my bb gun to school. Or walking across town with it in my hand to go out to the woods…nobody ever called the cops..

Sad what this whole gun thing has turned into. At least he wasn’t shot 100 times. used take guns to school to work on in shop class.
Was he swatted?
