OBIT: Doris Louise Greenzweig, 91, of Charles City

Doris Louise Greenzweig, 91, died on December 19, 2017 at Apple Valley Assisted Living in Charles City, Iowa.

A funeral service for Doris will be held Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City, Iowa with Pastor Wendy Johannesen officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City, Iowa. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Doris Louise Hauser, the daughter of August and Edith (Wheaton) Hauser, was born on September 18, 1926. She attended Nashua public schools and earned her high school equivalency. Doris married Louis Robert Logan January 9, 1945 in Charles City. To this union they had three children: Barbara Ann, Larry Louis, and Rodney John. Louis passed away September 7, 1960. Doris then married Bernard Greenzweig in 1975 in Elkhart, Indiana. Doris was a caring stepmother to Jay Greenzweig. Bernard passed away in 1989.

Doris was a “Rosie the Riveter” in World War II at Consolidated Aircraft. She was then the co-owner of L. R. Construction and owner/manager of Cedar View apartments. Doris worked at Oliver Tractor Company and various secretary positions. Doris was a member of the Lady Auxiliary at the VFW, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, and Trinity United Methodist Church. Doris loved to crochet prayer shawls and baby afghan’s for Trinity United Methodist Church Missions, embroider, garden, and bowl. She listened to books on tapes and liked to travel. She would winter down in Florida.

Living family members include: a brother John Hauser of Wisconsin; two sisters: Nona (Robert) Dubbe of North Carolina and Wilma of Louisiana; three children: Barbara Jones of Charles City, Larry (Rita) Logan of North Carolina, and Rodney (Judy) Logan of New Jersey; stepson Jay (Cindy) Greenzweig of Indiana; grandchildren: Robert Jones of Wisconsin, Shelly (Joel) Jones-Lindamen of Missouri, Joshua (Megan) Logan of North Carolina, Brittany Logan of North Carolina, Marni (Tom) Adam of Iowa, Scott White of Missouri, Rodney (Molly) Logan Jr. of New Jersey and Robert (Donna) Logan of Maryland; 17 great-grandchildren; 8 great great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers and sisters; two husbands Louis Robert Logan and Bernard Greenzweig; granddaughter Lorrie Folken; and great-granddaughter Katherine.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doris Greenzweig’s name to the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Trinity United Methodist Church in Charles City.
