WEST DES MOINES – The drivers of two cars that collided head-on Sunday morning on Interstate 35 in West Des Moines are dead, authorities say.

West Des Moines Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on Interstate 35 in the 1600 block at 1:59 AM on Sunday, October 15, 2017. Preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle was driving south on Interstate 35 in the northbound lanes and collided with another vehicle. The drivers of both vehicles were killed in the crash. A passenger in the northbound vehicle suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The crash caused the closure of Interstate 35, but all lanes are now open. The investigation is ongoing and the names of the people involved in the crash will not be released until all notifications are made.

West Des Moines Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Urbandale Police, Des Moines Police Ident team, Norwalk Police, Clive Police, and the Iowa State Patrol.

never ceases to amaze me, head on’s on a interstate. comeon man, its 4 lanes divided by a pretty wide mediam could see it on a two lane road, if I was driving down the interstate and saw headlights in my lane coming at me, id change lanes or get off. is everyone sleeping??

Drunk or elderly driver is my guess

Drunk driver my guess, an elderly person would be home in bed. Nothing good happens after midnight.

Young person on the phone is my guess.
