MASON CITY – A convicted bank robber was caught driving illegally, cruising through town with an armed felon versed in the art of choking people.
A Mason City police officer stopped a vehicle on Monday morning, September 18 at about 2:06 AM at the 1300 block of South Carolina Avenue. The officer discovered the driver to be 35-year-old Emily Elizabeth Buttshaw (Francis), an accused drunk driver and convicted bank robber. In the car with Buttshaw was 42-year-old Chad Duane Dean. Police tell NIT that Dean was toting an illegal substance and brass knuckles.
As a result, Buttshaw, who is facing a drunk driving charge in Worth county at this time and a December 12 trial, was arrested for driving while revoked. Dean was arrested for felony possession of an illegal substance that police declined to name and carrying a dangerous weapon.
Buttshaw (Francis) was an accomplice in the February 3rd, 2012 robbery of the 1st Citizens Bank in downtown Mason City. Police have said that just a few minutes before the bank was robbed, a “vague” bomb threat was called into Newman School, potentially diverting police from the bank location. She served only about a year in jail for that crime.
Just last month, Dean was guilty of assault causing bodily injury after he choked his Mason City victim back in April.

Why either one of these people are still out on the street is beyond me! What the heck do you have to do now days to get sent to prison?
They do send them to prison where they learn more from other criminals, They then release them from prison early to the BeGee Clark halfway house to be released back into society. We were sold that this place would not increase the crime in our City. I would argue that exactly the opposite has happened. A lot of them get sent here, get comfortable here and don’t leave. We are getting imported criminals that are released on to our streets here.
I completely agree John. BeeGee is a farce and nothing but a training ground for criminals. The only thing it does is supply cheap labor to the fast food industry.
