FERTILE – Five people were hurt in a Worth county crash this week when a teen driver crossed the center line of a highway.
The accident happened Thursday, June 1, at about 5:13 PM on Highway 9 and Cardinal Avenue, just west of Fertile.
A 2003 Audi A4 driven by 17-year-old Christy Mettry of Forest City was traveling westbound on Highway 9 when the vehicle crossed the center line. At the same time, a 2004 Ford F350 driven by 64-year-old Douglas Kronemann of Osage was eastbound and was sideswiped by the Audi. Kronemann’s Ford pickup crossed the centerline as a result, and rolled into the north ditch. Mettry’s Audi was then struck head-on by a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer driven by 73-year-old Joan Odens of Forest City. The Trailblazer entered the south ditch as the Audi came to rest on the highway.
As a result of the 3-vehcile accident, Mettry, Kronemann and Odens were injured. Also hurt were 63-year-old Don Ritter of Greene and 75-year-old Charles Odens of Forest City. All five persons were taken to Mercy Hospital in Mason City by Forest City Ambulance.
All five people were wearing seat belts, the Iowa State Patrol says.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted on scene by Worth County Sheriffs Office, Forest City Ambulance, and others.
