MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore outfielder Kendall Cornick has been selected to the Fast Pitch News 2017 NJCAA Division II preseason all-American team.

Cornick hit .561 with 65 stolen bases, 24 RBIs, six doubles and three triples during her freshman campaign with the Lady Trojans in the 2016 season.

Cornick collected 88 hits as a freshman, which ranks 15th on NIACC’s career hit list. The 88 hits tied Lisa Jipson (1995) for the most in a single season at NIACC.

Cornick’s 65 stolen bases is a single-season school record and currently ranks second on the school’s career list. Jipson is the school’s career stolen base leader with 83.

Cornick was a first-team all-NJCAA Region XI selection as an outfielder as a freshman. She was a NJCAA Division II first-team Midwest Region selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The former Mason City High standout was selected as a NJCAA Division II second-team all-American by Fast Pitch New in 2015. She was selected as a first-team NJCAA Division II all-American by NFCA and was 2016 NFCA NJCAA Division II Golden Shoe winner.

Cornick is one of five ICCAC players on the NJCAA Division II preseason all-American list. Others are Kirkwood’s Taylor Nearad, Maddie Hansen and Lexi Kinnaird and DMACC’s Claire Dudek.

NIACC opens its 2017 season on Feb. 16 against Mount Mercy in Rosemount, Minn.
