4 NIACC wrestlers go 2-0 at Nebraska-Kearney duals

KEARNEY, Neb. – Four NIACC wrestlers went 2-0 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney duals on Friday.

The Trojans’ 285-pounders Mario Pena and Jimsher Sidhu both went 2-0 as did 197-pounders Sedrak Sheppard and Luke Erickson.
Pena picked up a fall and a decision and Sidhu gained two major decisions in the four dual meets as the Trojans went 0-4 as a team. Sheppard picked up a pair of falls and Erickson won both his matches by decision.

The No. 17 Trojans dropped a 27-21 decision to Neosho County CC in their opening match, fell to No. 7 Otero Junior College 33-17, lost to No. 19 Barton County CC 24-15 and dropped a 30-18 decision to Pratt Community College.

Pena pinned Otero’s Riley Hall in 4 minutes, 34 seconds and took a 3-2 decision from Barton’s Brix Brickey. Sidhu topped Neosho’s Aaron Lewis 18-7 and stopped Pratt’s Bradon Huntley 17-7 for his two major decisions.

In the 197-pound matches, Sheppard pinned Neosho’s Josh Walker in 6:36 and stuck Barton’s Ethan Dean in 3:59. Erickson topped Otero’s Jared Smith 6-1 and stopped Pratt’s Otto Orosco 6-2.

Also for the Trojans, 141-pounder Austin Anderly was 3-1 and 165-pounder Tucker Black was 2-2.
NIACC returns to action Wednesday night in a home dual meet against Iowa Central.
