Charles City man finds out drugs and a porta-potty do not mix

CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man was taken to jail when police were called about his involvement with drugs and a porta-potty.

The incident unfolded Tuesday afternoon around 2:52 PM near the 100 block of St. Mary’s Street, not far from a park and the Cedar River. A person called police to report narcotics use in a porta-potty at that location. Officers arrived and after an investigation, arrested 42-year-old Courtland Smith of Charles City. He was charged with second-offense possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Smith was taken to the county jail, where he remains held at this time.

NIT reported earlier that smith was charged in Charles City with fourth-degree theft after tools valued at about $400.00 had been stolen from a location in the 800 block of South Grand Avenue on Saturday, August 23. He later pleaded guilty to that crime and was put on probation, which apparently expired in April of this year.
