NIACC’s Ziegler earns first-team all-American honors

niacc_trojans_logoMASON CITY – NIACC sophomore Malique Ziegler has been selected as a first-team all-NJCAA Division II all-American outfielder.

Ziegler, who will play next season at the University of Iowa, is the first NIACC player selected to the first team since Danny Reed earned first-team honors in 2006, also as an outfielder. Ziegler and Reed are the only two NIACC baseball players to garner first-team all-American honors.

It is the second straight season NIACC has had an all-American selection. Shortstop Robbie Glendinning was a second-team pick in 2015.

Ziegler, who was the ICCAC player of the year, hit .395 (98 hits) with 22 home runs and 16 doubles in his lone season in a Trojan uniform. Ziegler, the team’s leadoff hitter and center fielder, also drove in 70 runs and stole 31 bases for the Trojans, who qualified for the NJCAA Division II World Series for the third time in four seasons.
