For the record…I am not part of the “Russ Hardy is a slum lord” crowd here on NIT. I suggested Russ become saintly and offer his tenants the opportunity to own their premises, and it turns out he has started that option for some of his house rentals. I think that’s great. Yes Landlords provide a service to those who don’t have the capital nor the expertise to manage a home, but socialist / communist arguments can be made along the same lines. The goal I feel is for human beings to own their properties at an affordable rate, so they can spend more time with family and working on their domestic situations…growing food, bettering their homes, fathering and mothering their children etc. However we arrived where we are, I think it’s great if Russ and other high volume property owners would act as their own government program to help low income people own their own homes and lands.
The biggest fish to catch so to speak, is getting the Board of Supervisors to change the laws regarding Cerro Gordo County land use, to allow farmers to break up large rural parcels into smaller 1-3 acre plots at an affordable rate. No thank you to large Schoneman style development projects that affix massive price tags and building codes. Yes thank you to total freedom of construction style (Go Tiny Houses!!), organic garden plots and solariums, and communities of togetherness and peace.
Russ and his son Kevin have the right idea with the solar, and if they can turn North Iowa into that Shangri-La / Utopia…then GO FOR IT!

Names like Challenger, Larry, Frank, etc. It’s pretty easy to tell when it’s loser Lagios posting his rants. By ignoring him he’s not going to go away, but he will continue to let everyone know that he is a certifiable sociopath. Let’s all.start the new year by just not responding to his bull. I find most people are ignorant of the truth. Truth being that the local justice system is illegitimate and subverts the law of the land (constution/ supreme court case law). WARREN VRS D.C. 1981 DICISION “THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, MILLITARY,POLICE,OR ITS AGENTS OWE NO DUTY OF CARE TO PROTECT SAFETY OF ANY CITIZEN”. That almost verbatim case law was to lay the ground work that its not thier job and by the way what are they doing incerting themselves. blacks law dictionary under defintion of crime states that there has to exist a victim affirmation or sworn complaint. So all those who are arrested for victimless crimes are just citizens being kidnapped and then extorted from for thier freedom. Example you have an inalienable right to travel un molested in a personal conveyance with a guest you are not afforded the privilege to operate a comercial vehicle conduction of commerce. Dont worry i am staying on point and that point being this towns legal system is corupt. The courts are not true courts as set up by the constution but are are admiralty/ millitary tribunal courts and absent contract have no jurdiction. So when i envoked my constutional right to challange the jurisdiction of the court in an 18 page notorized motion to dismiss in apa format with jump citations for a non jailable offence. The judge threatened to hold me for bond. THE CONVERSION OF THE ENVOKING OF A CONSTUTIONAL INTO A CRIME IS CALLED WAGING WAR AGAINST THE LAW OF THE LAND OR TREASON. So all in all the judge/administrator violated mine and everyone elses constutional rights in five areas. All i was looking at was a 200 fine for doing something i have right to do travel to my job to provide for my family. Anytime you punish people according to the preferences of others and not the law we are all stolen from. So let us illuminate the mases instead of turning out the lights, so speak truth out of love people.

Well, it is too bad that they Hawkeyes got beat as bad as they did in the Rose Bowl. And yes, coaching may have had something to do with it too. But….where were all the critics and arm-chair quarterbacks when they were going undefeated? I never heard a bad thing abut them until Michigan State beat them. I guess everyone loves a winner.
THIS PUBLICATION is an exciting addition to the little city of MASON CITY media choices. It is refreshingly honest, to the point, satiric in some ways yet factual with a depth that most newspapers don’t risk exposing. It is a perfect example of the true freedoms of freedom of speech! Too often editors hold back on the most interesting, yet “sticky” areas of crime and cushion opinions about political subjects. Many hometown newspapers as ignore obvious issues in our community, in order to “soften” the “not so charming” realities that go on in every little city. North Iowa Today delivers the news with a sort of fun, sometimes humorously rude and often ridiculously in-depth manner. This is an absolute inspiration, as far as finally seeing, in print, the news we know is happening, but is so often hid under ” kinder, gentler” words. NIT does not hesitate to reveal the answers to questions no one wants to ask out loud. This is an additional avenue to keep up with the current affairs in North Iowa.
Each day I log on to the publication with an anticipation, I am satisfied and impressed with the content and the unique, entertaining and informative delivery. Although I frequently disagree with the political opinions, cringe at the harshness of releasing a mockery of some of the crimes perpetrated by young, first time offenders, and I ache at the exposure of addicts who appear to be criminal monsters-many of whom I know personally. I know some of them as struggling friends, or cheated children, soft-hearted, hard working, Christians, and brilliantly, funny alcoholics. I recognize untreated mentally impaired young adults, and a few elderly “legends” and I feel my heart tug. These “criminals” have a heart and emotions-they have parents or grandparents, a spouse or children who hurt when they hurt. Nevertheless, I appreciate the journalism, the informative, factual, although disturbing, disheartening, pubic records. I believe in the deeper, in depth info NIT provides. I understand and respect the curiousness of readers and respect their right to be informed. I also admire the “so human” style in which the news is relayed. I do get an odd thrill in the brave, crazy journalism Mr. Marquardt encourages as he accepts the “forbidden”… comments by “anonymous” and the raw, openness of the “Whiners Den” contributors.
I’ll begrudgingly admit, as a wayward,yet respectful, and sometimes criminally inclined, “live by the Golden Rule”, left leaning citizen, that I have immensely enjoyed your publication. Initially, I was disturbed at the harshness and pretty unfair exposure of some of the businesses owned by hard working life-long employers in Mason City. I was silly struck, interested, hungry, humored and intrigued by the in-depth crime reports. The first time I ran into your publication I was humored by the reference of the North End being the “Cultural..” and I went berserk with a somewhat, surprised, yet open mind about your oddly, almost irresponsible article about Hillary “sneaking” into Mason. At first I was irritated”ly”entertained, alarmed. However, it took me less than a few thoughts to realize how much I anticipated the next publication. Thank you and May

OK I will say it. Its the elephant in the room. The Iowa Hawkeye Football team absolutely sucks, along with that over paid coach who makes 4 million bucks a year. What an embarrassment to the state. This will go down as the greatest Rose Bowl ass whooping in history. Like John McCain they are no heros in my book.
Before you start wanting to wipe someone else’s ass why don’t you start by cleaning up the bathroom floor and toilet seat at your mother’s house that you pissed all over. By the way, please choose a better taste in beer there peasant.
