FRANKLIN COUNTY, IOWA – An auto accident Saturday in Franklin county on Interstate 35 has left several injured and one person dead.
The Iowa State Patrol (ISP) this afternoon confirmed that two children were among up to 6 people injured in the two-car accident they listed as a “fatal” accident. Earlier reports said 7 were injured – two seriously – and one person died.
The ISP did not release names in the accident at the 159 mile marker at southbound Interstate 35 that occurred Saturday at 10:44 AM. What they did say is that two vehicles were southbound in the main travel lane when a 2003 Cadillac slowed due to possible mechanical issues. A 200 Toyota 4Runner approached from the rest and collided with the Cadillac, sending both vehicles into the west ditch.
Richard Stensland, age 58 of Dino Lakes, Minnesota, died at the scene.
