HAMPTON – Wednesday morning, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz received the endorsement of 2014 Republican State Senate candidate Shawn Dietz. Dietz is highly active in Republican politics and has been part of the growing liberty movement within the GOP, earning the endorsement of Liberty Iowa as well as the support of many other Libertarian and Conservative leaning groups and individuals during the 2014 campaign cycle.

“Senator Cruz has stood apart from the Washington establishment at every opportunity, and I have no doubt about his willingness and ability to continue to stand in opposition to the status quo and the disastrous policies of the Washington Cartel,” Dietz said in his endorsement.

“Further, I believe the Cruz Crew that is assembling, not only in Iowa, but across these United Stares, is a team that will be able to coalesce long after this presidential campaign is over to accomplish necessary corrections in our Constitutional Republic. Admittedly, no President alone can right the ship, but a President who builds a team with Constitutional goals around him, can make significant change.”

Shawn Dietz lives in Hampton with his wife, three children, and one unborn child due in October. He was elected Mayor of Hampton in 2011, and ran for State Senate in 2014 after choosing not to seek re-election as Mayor. Dietz also serves on the Franklin County Board of Health and as the Chairman of the Franklin County Republican Central Committee.

@Edward go do some research on Cruz. He has published a lot of information about his positions. Books, DVD’s ect.

As far as shutting down the Government? To bad they didn’t follow through with that. We are already “trillions” more in debt because the RINO”s lacked the courage to make America great again and force the Democrats to quit spending. A man with the courage to filibuster and fight for what is right makes a good leader. I don’t care what he recites on the Senate floor to get his point across. At least he tried!

During the phony “shut down”, I remember: we were going to lose our Social Security Checks. Why is it Social Security is always running out of…

The real con is trump that flip-flop and pretend to be a conservative. People of Iowa elect him he most of done something right . Plus Cruz been fighting for liberty and the constitution why before the Senate

What???

Shawn Dietz is a nice enough guy, personally.
But after deciding not to run for Mayor of Hampton (part-time job) after one term because in his own words “It was too time consuming” he then decided to run for the Iowa Senate.
Ya, that makes sense.

Politically, Dietz is an Endorsement panderer.
He will accept or give endorsements to whatever the Republican “flavor of the day” is.

@ Edward,

You sound like a closet liberal using your comments to promote the Socialist Democratic agenda. I am betting you don’t even know Shawn Dietz.

People have a right to change their mind. Working on the State level as opposed to a local level is two entirely different things. Finding fault because this fellow changed his mind is just plain foolishness.

Try being more positive, the country needs hope not your doom and gloom attitude.

Oh, I know Shawn and as I said, he is a nice guy. Good family man.

So, you think that when someone doesn’t want to run for one office because it is too time consuming, then turns right around and runs for a different office that will be even more time consuming, that makes sense to you?

You seem to want to cast aspersions against any of those that do not fit into your view point.
I don’t play the name-game, I’ll leave that to you, as you seem to relish that as one of your few talking points.

Name calling is the way some regulars here attempt to engage with others. They undermine adult conversation and can’t handle any difference of opinion. Let’s raise the bar.

Mr. Cruz wants to paint himself as an outsider that will swoop in and save the country. Mr. Cruz is a grad of Princeton U and Harvard Law and clerked for a Supreme Court justice. This makes him an outsider? Or an advocate for the middle class? His con (all pols have one) is to make us believe he can clean up Washington. He is Washington. Dietz? That endorsement means a lot. Mayor of Hampton? This means any thing? I think the Cruz campaign got suckered.

Griz you have it all wrong about Cruz. Where he went to school or who he worked has nothing to do with his agenda. Evidently you have not followed Cruz’s work as a Senator.

Griz you need to study up on the man before you comment. Cruz has a lot of stuff published so it should be easy for you to get up to speed. Now if your just a die hard liberal then there is no point in have a discussion with you.

As far as Dietz goes, your putting him down and killing the messenger is an old worn out tactic. Don’t work anymore.

Try and be open minded so we can make America great again.

The American people have to be able to find a more qualified candidate for President than Ted Cruz.
Shutting down the federal government and reading Dr. Seuss on the Senate floor are the marks of a carnival barker, not the leader of the free world.

He’s accomplished virtually nothing as a Senator.
Cruz is an obstructionist, blowhard and just about himself.
He brings no ideas to the table other than “No”.

@Edward-Your problem is that there are NO Democrats who are running that are even close to being more qualified than Cruz.. Certainly Hitlery the criminal, or Sanders the communist. They are becoming the laughing stock of the country.

Try to stay on topic, I was discussing the Republicans, not the Democrats.
What do you mean by “your problem”?
Are you once again assuming something that is not there?
I am conservative, but am always amused by those assume that because when one disagrees with a Republican candidate, they must be a Democrat.
There are several Republican candidates out there eminently more qualified than Cruz.

@Edward-I would agree with your last sentence. I have said before that Cruz would not be my first choice. I just don’t think he can get along with other people and he would need to. School is still out on my first choice. I like what Jindal and Trump have to say and I have always liked Huck. However, I don’t think they will get the nomination. I don’t know if Trump can maintain the lead with the establishment doing everything they can to discredit him. Isn’t it a shame that they can pick and choose who we will eventually vote for? .

Now, all that being said, I do think Cruz can do some good just because of his brashness. He doesn’t seem to mind pointing out tricks and mistakes by either party and that is a plus.

@Edward you must be a RINO. If you are finding fault with Cruz and claiming to be conservative you must belong to the elite/establishment County Club-Chamber of Commerce Republican’s. There is no difference between this political class and the Clinton/Sanders political class.

OK Watchdog, enlighten me with some facts about Ted Cruz that will sway my perspective on him.
Give me some hard evidence that I am wrong about Cruz.
Not op-eds, or baseless speculations, what has Rafael Edward Cruz actually done well.
Cold hard facts Watchdog.

Again with the name-games, eh?
I am a conservative.
It is just that I have not leaned so far to the right that I have actually fallen over, unlike some people.

Mr. Dietz knows a winner when he sees one!

I have read a lot about Ted Cruz and he has all the qualities to be president. He has been fighting the Country Club and Chamber of Commerce Washington establishment for the betterment of the poor and working class. I can’t find fault with that.

I will be more than happy to vote for Ted Cruz should he get the nomination over the Socialist/Progressive Democrat nominee.

What this country has been put through the last 7 years with no progress and help for the middle class should be enough for anyone to want a person like Ted Cruz for President.

Like Cruz needs the endorsement of Dietz. Gimme a break! Just how delusional is the Cracker from Hampton anyway?

Who is Shawn Dietz?

YES! We ARE organizing across the country to put people who honor the constitution in political office. We haven’t had the opportunity to put someone of Ted’s caliber of integrity, intelligence and COURAGE wife we elected Ronald Reagan as lotus! CRUZ 2016!!!!

Good for Shawn. We need someone who will stand up for our rights like Cruz.

Interesting comment there LVS.
Just a short while ago you stated on this site that Cruz was too far to the right for even you, now you support him.

And Shawn Dietz? Seriously?
The former Franklin County Tea Party founder that proudly wore a T-shirt that said “Midwest Cracker” & as Mayor of Hampton wanted to ban fluoride in the water.
Seriously?

I don’t know anything about Dietz, but, Cruz is not my first choice for president but he is doing what is necessary in other area’s. I think he is to much in your face for president although he would be a lot better than and of the Democrats running. They are nothing but a bunch of also rans in my opinion. The democrats know it so they think Al Gore might pull it out for them. Why not? They are used to liars in their party.

Now, if Dietz can help protect or constitution I am all for him. He is way better than the democrats choice.

Looks like Shawn is lining up all of his political good ol boys. Cruz, Huckabee, Paul. Schmoozer. Right wing political correctness

Right away you go negative. Why? Don’t you realize this country is upside down and headed on collision course with disaster?

I don’t know Mr. Dietz.. I am trying to listen to all the candidates and then I read a blog by you that says nothing but bad things about people. Why? When you talk the way you do, it is obvious that you don’t really know the issues or you must not understand and just want to be negative and against everything that would help the poor and middle class.

Is it your goal to destroy this country? That’s what your blog is telling me.

@watchdog-one really good thing I have noticed about Cruz is he will stand up for what is right no matter what party he is dealing with. In that sense him and Trump are somewhat alike. The concern I would have is if he can work with both side or if they would all line up to stop him. We need a first class revolution in this country to get rid of all the graft and vice in Washington. We should start with Obummer’s administration but the Republicans are guilty too.

I live in Montgomery, Alabama and I love Ted Cruz.
