Mason City woman sent to jail for violating probation in case where she rammed woman’s car

MASON CITY – A Mason City woman who was given deferred judgements and probation after an incident in which she allegedly flew into a rage and went after her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend – allegedly putting her own child at risk while she rammed her rival’s car – has been sent to jail for violating her probation.

Gabrielle Jade Marie Young, age 20, will spend the next 14 days in jail for violating her probation. Young was accused of assaulting her ex-boyfriend and his current girlfriend on July 28, 2014, at or near the 1300 block of North Washington Avenue. Police said that although the incident did not take place at a home, the assault was still a domestic assault since the two were still involved in a relationship. The assault charge was filed on behalf of the Young’s ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend. Police said that during the course of the assault, Young allegedly and intentionally, struck the new girlfriend’s vehicle with her vehicle and that at that time Young’s one month old child was in the car with her. Young then left the scene and was later arrested and charged with serious assault, serious domestic assault, child endangerment and third degree criminal mischief.

In January of this year, Young reached a plea deal. The child endangerment charge was dismissed; she was given a deferred judgment and probation for a charge of assault (originally the charge was domestic abuse assault); and she was given a deferred judgment for a charge of assault causing bodily injury.

This past May, Young was accused of violating her probation and was found guilty on July 31. She was given concurrent terms of 14 days in jail and placed on probation for 2 years. She must also pay $846.56 in fines and court fees.
