Man jailed for skipping court in drunk driving case

MASON CITY – A former Waterloo man now calling Mason City home is behind bars after he failed to appear in court on a drunk driving charge.

Larry Zavior Gaston, age 23, now living in a Mason City apartment and formerly of Waterloo, showed up at the county courthouse Friday at noon and was promptly arrested. He was scheduled to appear a week earlier on April 3 for a pre-trial conference on a charge of first offense operating while intoxicated. He had been stopped and arrested by Cerro Gordo deputies back on December 21, 2014. He is now being held on $1,000 bond until his jury trial on April 14.

After being accused of a number of crimes in Black Hawk county, Gaston has now picked up in Cerro Gordo county where he left off. In February of 2014, police were called to a downtown Mason City bar after Gaston was punched in the face by a woman, and his then-girlfriend, Cretia Martin, fought the woman. Gaston was arrested that night for disorderly conduct and public intoxication. The next month, he pleaded guilty to both charges and was ordered to pay $429.00 in fines and court costs, but never made a payment. The courts gave up trying to contact him in May of 2014.
