NIACC women’s track team wins Grinnell Invitational

niacc_trojans_logoGRINNELL – The NIACC women’s track and field team won the Grinnell Invitational with 88 points on Saturday.

The Lady Trojans won four events and set three school records in claiming the team title in the 11-team meet, which included Creighton of the Big East Conference.

NIACC picked up firsts from Rellie Kaputin in the long jump (5.54 meters), Adrine Monagi in the 60-meter dash in a school-record time of 7.71 seconds (breaking her own school mark of 7.81 at last year’s regional meet), Ellen Padmore in the 200 (27.05) and the distance medley relay team of Nicolle Hewett, Ellen Padmore, Kalama Towarap and Hannah Palmeter in a meet record time of 13:01.23.

NIACC placed second in the 4×400 in a school record time of 4:07.92. Monagi, Padmore, Morgan Meyer and Towarap broke the old school mark of 4:12.26, which was set in the 2011 season.

Monagi was second in the 60 hurdles in a school record time of 9.16 seconds. The old school mark was 9.33 seconds held by Laurel Murphy at the 2009 national meet.

Also for the Lady Trojans Saturday, Kaputin was second in the high jump (1.62 meters) and Monagi was third (1.57 meters), Towarap was second in the 600 (1:43.59) and Palmeter was second in the 3,000 (10:31.95).

For the NIACC men, Trey Simons won the 600 in 1:24.14 and Oryiane Espeut was second in 1:24.68 as both qualified for the NJCAA national indoor meet. John Enright was third in the 800 (2:02.11), and the Trojan 4×400 team of Taylor Nelson, Enright, Espeut and Brad Petersen was fourth (3:32.58).

The NIACC women’s and men’s track teams return to action Saturday, Feb. 14 at the UW-Platteville Invitational.

Men’s team standings – Grand View 102, Southwestern 96, Dubuque 71, Graceland 62, Creighton 46, Coe 44, Iowa Track and Field Club 39, NIACC 30, Clarke 26, Cornell 15, Grinnell 11, Simpson 3.
