MASON CITY – A Mason City man had a good reason to smile Sunday as he pumped some cheap gas.

Early Sunday morning, Gary Beek was at the Walmart gas station filling up his car. “These sure are nice prices,” Mr. Beek remarked with a little extra glow.

But it was’t just the unusually low gas prices that had Mr. Beek in a talkative mood.

“Last night, my wife, Florence, lost her wallet. First thing this morning, Younkers, where we had been shopping the night before, called and said that they had found my wife’s billfold,” he said.

“I went there to pick it up, in the men’s department,” Mr. Beek explained.

Many times, people lose a wallet or purse and if they are lucky to get it back, some or all of the contents have been raided.

That wasn’t the case for the Beeks.

“Everything was in it. We were worried about the credit cards,” he said. “It’s nice to know that there is still honest people out there.”

Mr. Beek said he rewarded the person who turned the wallet in.

“I gave the finder ten of the twenty-five dollars that was still in the wallet.”
