Mason City man jailed for 90 days in aggravated public intox case

MASON CITY – A Mason City man was sent to jail for 90 days in an aggravated public intoxication case and later pled guilty to assault in a jailhouse fight.

Daniel Allen Whitmore, age 35, was place don probation previously after a number of charges of public intoxication were leveled against him, culminating in a guilty plea to aggravated public intoxication. In October, he was found guilty of violating his probation and sent to jail for 90 days and ordered to pay $247.50 in court fees. He’ll be released two days after Christmas.

Earlier this month, Whitmore was charged with assault after a jailhouse incident.

Deputies at the Cerro Gordo county jail responded to an altercation between two male inmates on the afternoon of Sunday, November 23. Willie James York, age 35, and Daniel Allen Whitmore, age 35, were engaged in a scuffle in a common area of the jail. Both men were charged with simple assault and held on an additional $300 bond to go along with their other charges.

Both Whitmore and York pled guilty and were each given a one day jail sentence with credit for time served. Both were also ordered to pay $60.00 in court costs.
