Five arrested for Floyd county beating

CHARLES CITY – A man was beaten in Floyd county earlier this month, and five men have been arrested after an investigation.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office was summoned to the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City in the early morning hours of October 12 after a man was brought there who had been physically attacked by five to six male subjects.  The beating allegedly took place on Triumph Avenue near 13th Avenue in Floyd county.

The investigation uncovered that another male was also attacked at the same time and location, and that there were numerous witnesses present.  This lead to even more extensive investigations and interviews with witnesses.

On October 29, four individuals were arrested on warrants for two counts of class C willful injury causing serious injury and held on $20,000 bond: Jeffrey Thomas Stoddard, age 35 of Charles City; Tyler Robert Tonelli, age 21 of Charles City; Brett Ryan Carlson, age 25 of New Hampton; and Cody Lee Cordes, age 26 of New Hampton.  Another male is wanted in connection to this crime, Dakota Gene Gillespie, age 19 of Charles City.  He is charged with the same crimes.

Also through the course of this investigation, Steven Elliot Zastrow, age 24 of Charles City, was charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

New Hampton police, Charles City Police, and Nashua police as well as the Division of Criminal Investigation and U.S. Marshalls assisted in the investigation.
