The following is an email from NorthIowaToday.com Publisher Matt Marquardt to Globe Gazette reporter and bully John Skipper, who flagrantly flaunted the rules Saturday morning and parked his car in a potentially dangerous place, just so he could fill his face with grub and not walk very far to do it. Two NIT subscribers saw Skipper do the deed and warned him about where he was parked, and Skipper refused to move the car.

subject: above the law/rules?
Mr. John Skipper,
I understand you and a driver parked your car in a no parking zone today, in a busy, full parking lot here in Mason City.
Do you feel that rules do not pertain to you, even after two Mason City residents warned you that your car was in a dangerous place, potentially subjecting other drivers to auto accidents and obscuring their vision as they navigate this area? Were you aware when you parked your car, that you hoarded valuable space in front of the Mercy Urgent Care Center? As a public figure who regularly pontificates “right and wrong”, is it silly for your few readers to expect you to obey the rules and/or laws in our community? Mr. Skipper, do you feel yourself to be “special” or entitled in some way?
Any quote you would like to respond with on this developing story would be welcomed.

PS: You have written in support of the Mason City Blue Zone. What part of the Pies N More cafe menu that you ate off of this morning is “Blue Zone friendly”, or were those stories just more hot air coming out of your mouth to support the agendas of your cronies?
Attached is proof – a photo – of your deed Saturday morning.
Exactly. After much research about this city’s public figures and local government, I am ready to move. This community is completely focused on money and how they can bully their way into making more of it. There is nothing wrong with a citizen calling someone out on their own indiscretions. Maybe they will park respectfully as they should from now on. No one is excerpt from parking like a decent person. I have retuned to my car and had to climb through the pass side because of someone’s…
“this developing story” lol.
.
Breaking–columnist parks illegally.
Matt, I hear The Onion is hiring.
Does anybody remember the Mason City Bats? The semi pro team that folded after one year?
Does anybody know, I can’t remember, but didn’t he have something to do with the North Iowa Huskies as well?

If its on private property I think the Police can only write handicap or fire lane parking tickets.
I’m not 100% on the law, but this seems similar to me:
(14017923) Parking Reported: 10-11-2014 19:07
Officer issued parking ticket for parking in the fire lane.
Addresses Involved
551 Illinois Av S, Mason City, IA 50401
Names Involved
Officers Involved
Sergeant Klemas, Steve
A PUBLIC parking lot is NOT PRIVATE PROPERTY.
BOTTOM LINE: Skipper’s action here proves he thinks the police won’t ticket him. He either thinks our law enforcement is lazy or too dumb or negligent to do their job. I have alerted law enforcement to this situation and I hope they do the right thing and write a ticket to the driver of the car that was chauffeuring Skipper around. Skipper sucker punched the people of Mason City and he should pay with a parking ticket.
Most any one else would have received a ticket for illegal parking….Jim
should have blurred out plate
Why? When you see Skipper stumble out of the car, you know who it belongs to anyway. It’s his car, that’s the point of the story.
Matt,
Sorry, but you are being so miniscule and bias…really think this type of reporting will gain you public support in the future? I think not…stay positive man!!
NIT readers wanted the story, expected it. That’s the only reason I knew about Skipper’s deed – NIT readers alerted me to his behavior. The shame is on Skipper, and I’ll do the story every time. Thanks.
Well not sure if this is news but it does show the double standard
At work in Mason City.
I appreciate your opinion. I feel that exposing the sickness and entitlement of hogs like Skipper is my duty. Apparently, Mr. Skipper is a special man who can do anything he wants while most everyone else tries to play by the rules. He hides behind his grimy keyboard all day long taking shots and calling other citizens names, plays filthy games with the mayor in a dark office with the door closed. All I did was lift up the rock that this snake lives under and let a little sunshine blind his black, beady little eyes.
Good job Matt.
Thank you Matt, these things help solidify the comments you reveal about these blowhards!
Skipper, what a joke of a reporter.
He thinks he is one of the special elite, but he is just a old man who thinks he is a writer.
While I’m not a big fan of his, I do think he’s a talented writer. I have to give credit where credit is due.
You must be right; that’s why he has written for that nearly-dead rag on North Washington for all these years, getting paid by the hour. What a talent. He is especially gifted at dirty tricks and interfering in the work of other journalists.
