MASON CITY – A man who was arrested in August on two counts of child endangerment and public intoxication nearly found himself in the same boat Saturday afternoon at a Mason City strip mall.
Mason City police took an emergency call at about 2:00 PM from the Cash Advance store at the Plaza West Shopping Center on 4th Street SW. The caller reported a male subject who appeared to be heavily intoxicated, wearing a black t-shirt, with a small child with him. It was reported that the man was asking for rides and grabbing females.
Police quickly descended on the scene, and discovered 38-year-old Chad Michael Chase there with his 5-year-old son. He was arrested, charged with public intoxication and held on $300 bond. Police took the boy into protective custody briefly until they brought him home to his mother; he was unharmed. A DHS referral was made.
Chase is currently facing two counts of child endangerment, brought by Mason City police, after an incident on August 24. On that day, he was charged with public intoxication, and he pled guilty the next day. He was ordered to pay $262.50 in fines and court costs. He has not made a payment on that balance and has received a final notice from the courts to make payment.
