Iowa man arrested in dependent abuse case after nearly $50K was taken from elderly woman

STORM LAKE – Earlier this month, an Iowa man was arrested for felony dependent adult abuse for allegedly stealing nearly $50,ooo from an elderly Iowa woman.

According to Buena Vista County Sheriff Doug Simons, an arrest has been made after an investigation of a dependent adult abuse. In October of 2013, the Buena Vista Sheriff’s Office received a report from the Department of Human Services of the dependent adult abuse of an 89 year old Marathon, IA woman. The investigation discovered that between May of 2012 and November 2013 over $49,000 worth of checks of the victim were misappropriated by the defendant. The Buena Vista Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for R. Neal Ruge, age 61, of Marathon, IA.

On april 17, 2014, the Laurens Police Department located Ruge and he was transferred to the custody of the Buena Vista Sheriff’s Office.

Ruge was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail for Dependent Adult Abuse a Class D Felony, and Ruge was held on $5,000 Bond.
