IOWA CITY – Alcohol sales law compliance checks were conducted on April 25, 2014 at thirty five businesses licensed to sell alcoholic beverages. Working with plainclothes officers, underage persons entered these businesses and attempted to illegally purchase alcoholic beverages. During these checks, thirty one businesses refused to sell to the underage buyers and passed the compliance checks. Those businesses were:

• Deli Mart – 525 Hwy 1 W
• Fast Break – 2580 Naples Ave SW
• RJz Express – 2 Escort Ln.
• The Pit – 130 N Dubuque St.
• Coach’s Corner – 749 Mormon Trek Blvd.
• Club Car – 122 Wright St.
• Sushi Popo – 725 Mormon Trek Blvd.
• Blue Bird Diner – 330 E Market St.
• Pagliai’s Pizza – 302 E Bloomington St.
• Pancheros Mexican Grill – 965 S Riverside Dr.
• Los Portales – 1402 S Gilbert St.
• Hy-Vee – 1201 N Dodge St.
• Bob’s Your Uncle – 2208 N Dodge St.
• North Dodge Sinclair – 2153 ACT Circle
• Joensy’s – 2563 N Dodge St.
• North Dodge Express – 2790 N Dodge St.
• Blackstone – 503 Westbury Dr.
• Short’s Burger and Shine – 521 Westbury Dr.
• Dan’s Short Stop – 2221 Rochester Ave.
• Baroncini Ristorante – 104 S Linn St.
• Summit Restaurant & Bar – 10 S Clinton St.
• Bo James – 118 E Washington St.
• One Twenty Six – 126 E Washington St.
• Atlas World Grill – 127 E Iowa Ave.
• Donnelly’s Pub – 110 E College St.
• TCB – 114 E College St.
• The Mill – 120 E Burlington St.
• Yacht Club – 13 S Linn St.
• Gabe’s Oasis – 330 E Washington St.
• Aoeshe Restaurant – 624 S Gilbert St.
Four businesses checked by police sold to the underage buyers during this check. The employees who sold the alcohol were each charged with Selling Alcohol to Persons Under Age 21. The businesses that failed the compliance checks were:
• El Banditos – 327 E Market St.
• Carlos O’Kelly’s – 1411 Waterfront Dr.
• Iron Hawk – 122 E Washington St.
• Blue Moose Tap House – 211 Iowa Ave.
Selling (employee) alcohol to persons under age 21 years of age is a simple misdemeanor, punishable with a $500 fine for the first offense. Additionally, all violations will be forwarded to the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division for civil penalties against the liquor licenses.
