IOWA CITY – Iowa wrestling coach Tom Brands said Tuesday that controversies are good because it means the team is deep.
“Depth is good, controversies are good,” coach Brands said at a press conference. Controversies within the lineup mean “we’re deep, we like being deep, and we want to be deeper.”
Iowa won 12 individual titles Saturday at the Luther Open in Decorah. Iowa’s 10 individual champions combined for 21 pins.
“There is a competition going on in this (workout) room, and I’ve heard about it with Tony Ramos, Mike Evans and Bobby Telford. They’re talking about pinning, and that’s good. Let’s keep doing it when the competition gets tougher and have it carry over to the big meets.”
