MASON CITY – Two subjects eluded police early Wednesday morning, jumping from a moving pick-up truck in order escape possible arrest.

Authorities confirmed Wednesday afternoon that Mason City police were following a Silverado pick-up truck at about 3:53 AM in the vicinity of South Georgia Avenue and 14th Street.

According to a source, police were following the truck, which contained two subjects and was moving slowly, when the two subjects jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot. The truck had stopped short of the intersection of 14th Street and S. Georgia Avenue, and police called for a tow truck to pick it up.

Up to six Mason City police officers scoured the area in search of the alleged culprits, but believed that they had gotten away. In a possibly related incident, there was a report that a nearby tree service business had broken into at about the same time.

A Cerro Gordo county sheriff deputy was checking out the contents in the back of the vehicle and also helped search the area.

More information as it is released.
