MASON CITY – Details are still emerging in a one-car accident Tuesday evening that apparently involved a pedestrian that was injured.
A source informed NIT that a person was struck by a vehicle Tuesday at about 5:20 PM at a location near North Federal Avenue and 9th Street.
According to police late Tuesday evening, Mason City Fire Department transported Nathan Heagel, age 24 of Manly, Iowa, to Mercy Hospital Emergency Room for treatment of the injuries he received. At this time Heagel is in the Critical Care Unit in stable condition. The driver, Robert Mills, age 70 of Northwood, Iowa was not injured in the collision.
Mason City Police Accident Reconstructionists were called in to investigate the collision. At this time the accident is currently being investigated. Charges may be pending once the investigation is completed.
Mason City police and first responders came to the scene, along with at least one Cerro Gordo county sheriff’s deputy. A bystander told NIT that a breathalyzer test was administered to the drive of the vehicle involved in the collision.
Police were seeking video evidence from the nearby Casey’s gas station to help in their investigation.
The area was not cleared until after 7:40 PM.
