MASON CITY – Tuesday, August 6, 2013, marks the 30th Anniversary for the Annual National Night Out crime and drug prevention event. This is a night for America to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity. It showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement on our fight to build a safer nation. National Night Out has been held annually since 1984 and locally since 1998 and is sponsored in conjunction with the National Association of Town Watch, Target Stores, and locally by the Mason City Community Policing Advisory Board along with the Mason City Police Department.
Starting at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6th, residents throughout Mason City are asked to encourage their neighbors to turn on porch lights to show solidarity. Everyone is welcome to attend the free fun-packed “family affair” at East Park by the band shell. A variety of activities will be held including a kid power pedal tractor pull event, games for little ones, and Half Pint The Clown. There will be demonstrations and displays presented by local community organizations and youth oriented programs. Free food will be served and there will be a drawing for prizes. Join us on Tuesday, August 6th at 5:00 p.m. “Giving Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party”.
The money spent on this event, the city doing stupid Blue Zone projects, those ridiculous statues, and other total wastes of money should be spent on the revitalization of some of the neighborhoods in this town. There should be some kind of grants available to homeowners (or even renters for that matter)so they can clean up their properties. Some garbage companies could donate dumpsters so all the crap that makes some of these eye sore houses look decent. Paint stores could donate paint so these homes don’t look like crack houses. And what’s up with all the abandoned houses throughout town? Isn’t there some kind of zoning code that prevents that? If this town would band together for the greater good of ALL the people, more decent people would get involved. I’m a working, middle class, single mother of 3 and live on the north end, and I would totally get involved with projects for the betterment of my neighborhood. Granted, you’re not going to get any of the Under-Armour-SUV-driving-pony-tailed-yoga-pants-wearing types to help out because they just drive by and whine about what this city has become while comparing it to Chicago, but there would be a lot of people like me that would gladly pitch in to help out.
If the courts and law enforcement in this town would do their job, we wouldn’t need the “annual night out against crime”.
Government drugs OK, street drugs like pot mot OK. Like I said. This is corporation partnering with police to make sure you tow the line and run with cigs and booze. WE are working hard to make sure you choose the right drugs.
Again here we have a drug user trying to convince us that ILLEGAL drugs should be available to anyone. To prove it, he conjures up dastardly Corporate conspiracy theories, baseless as they may be to a normal person.
And when he has no other argument, the medical plank of the campaign is brought out. But dare not mention Marinol, or doctor controlled administration, because it will take away his ability to get HIGH.
Once he gets his way, the next argument will be for cocaine, to which he will sell to you in the form of some religious scheme. Where will it end?
He wants his ILLEGAL drugs any way he can get them. Even if it means deception. He does not care about your community either, since currently, he breaks the law to get stoned.
A poorly planned ploy.
@Observer-His girlfriend Tanya is back in jail for shop lifting again. Druggers always get caught in the end and he will too. They are really not to bright you know?
Observer: Be prepared to be called a mean old person! LOL
While the intentions of National Night Out are good, what people really attend for is the FREE food. I might suggest that you go to this one and take notice of just who comes for the free stuff. After they eat and play, they go home and it’s back to normal. If we really want to clean up and have a safer neighborhood/America, we need to start at the top. Where’s the hot dogs and popcorn…..
@Allan-Iberra will be the first in line.
No way. Urdahl will camp out all night to be fed first.
@My Opinion-Good point.
More BS, they just want you to use their drugs.
They will need more than one night out to fight the crime and drugs in this town.
