MASON CITY – Sears in Mason City had some on the earliest customers waiting for the doors to open at 8:00 pm Thursday night.
The first people in line had been waiting since 10:00 am Thanksgiving morning so they can get first pick at the sales. “We’re writing out our list,” said the first lady in line.
“They have seven 50″ TV’s and seven 32″ TV’s on sale,” said Enid Lauritsen, who was keeping an eye on the number of people ahead of her.
Mindi Schultz, who has been waiting since about 1:00 pm, said, “At 6:30, they will start giving out tickets. Then we can go to our cars to warm up and not worry about losing our place in line.”
At Kmart, Kelly Westendorf and daughter Alexis were the first in line. “We’ve been here since 5:00 and the doors open at 8:00. We’re here for the TV.” The rest of the people in line agreed, “It’s the electronics that we’re here for.”
At Target, the first group of young men had been waiting in line since 2:00 pm. Parker Pattschull, Jacob Tefft and Dakota Fix were sitting by the “line starts here sign. They were there to get their good deals on TV’s and Ipads. Dakota joked, “I’m here to get groceries, I hear the watermelon is a good deal.”
After the three men are done at Target, they said they would be heading to wait in line at Fleet Farm that opens at 5:00 am. “We brought a heater to keep us warm overnight.”
The second couple in line, Christina Christensen and Hunter Lauritsen, had just got back from Pizza Hut with a pizza. “We’ve been here since about 2:15, and the guys saved our place in line.”
Christina said, “I’m here for Hunter, I only have a dollar.”
