MASON CITY – Early Monday morning, the Mason City Police Department fielded reports of home invasions in the city.
The department said today that starting in the early morning hours, they began to receive calls from citizens that their homes had been burglarized while they were sleeping. At 2:42 AM, a citizen in the 1700 block of South Delaware Avenue reported that they were awoken by a noise, and when they went to investigate, they heard someone run out their back door.
Later this morning, two other citizens reported that when they woke up, they discovered that someone had entered their home and stolen a purse and cash. These incidents occurred in the 1500 block of South Delaware and the 100 block of 28th Street SW.
The department recommends that people lock their doors and ground level windows even when they are home and to contact the police if they notice unfamiliar people in their neighborhood. Police recommend that you alert the MCPD if you notice a door or window that you think has been entered illegally.

Maybe its time for the police department to add a few more people to there shifts instead of only 4 officers at a time in a town of over 30000. Think its time to start looking at some priorities instead of wants in this town, unless they want to take it back to the old west were we took care of our own problems with our own solutions.

I deliver the Globe in the mornings and see people wandering the streets/alleys every morning but very heavily on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday… I often wonder what they are up to; I assume no good… I always give people the benefit of the doubt however and never approach or call the police about this
“suspicious” person I saw because I’d hate to be the guy calling the police every morning for them to search and not find the guy I just saw minutes ago or find the guy and he just be walking home from a friends house… I don’t want to call the police every morning and just be the guy wasting their time… Once I noticed a truck with a trailer pulling behind Hy-Vee East and I saw it at like 3:45am in the morning going behind there and I thought that was weird… Next morning 2 guys get arrested for stealing scrap metal, come to find out that on the same night there was another Red truck lurking around taking scrap out of Behr’s dumpsters at Hy-Vee East where they are re-modeling, I called the police the next day to describe the vehicle because I saw that 2 had been arrested and I left a message with the investigator but I never received a call back. Which is fine however I kind of felt like What was the point… I love my community and I want it to be free of vandals, drugs, thieves, abusers, drunk drivers, etc… I just don’t know what else I can do to help out however after reading this story I’m just going to call anything odd I see in because not only could this home owner have been injured or killed just as easily the burglar could have been as well. We’re legally able to conceal guns and this guy/gal is going to get blasted on of these times they go into the wrong place and that’s not a mess I wish for anyone to clean up or have to deal with!
Wow-and they are all in the south end of Mason City. We better bring in the bulldozers and level the place. Crime is rampant down there, just check the police files. Maybe we can get the A-Holes at Alley Katz to move to Homers or Patrick’s. That way all the criminals will be in one section of town. As far as my home, I can and will defend it and there won’t be enought left to haul away if they try to come in my home
