PAYING MY WATER BILL TODAY, I SEE A PRODOMINATE NORTH END FAMILY THAT IS ALWAYS HAVING RUNINS WITH THE LAW AND IN THE NEWS IS LOSING THEIR HOME. nOT SAYING THATS A GOOD THING, BUT IS ANY ONE ELSE HOPING THEY MOVE FAR FAR AWAY?
who is it?
THE SAUERS’
PRODOMINANTE INDEED…..
We can only hope they will move FAR FAR AWAY!!!!!
Runoff has it their moving back out east but a few of the kids are staying behind.
Nice. Would you like it if all of your business was put on this site? It’s bad enough it’s public record. I think they should just have addresses & no names. Losing your home is one of the worst things that a person can go through.
being their neighbor ranks up there pretty high too!
happyguy is always for handouts. Figures that person is for Obama. Handouts can lead to dependency and freedoms taken away unless you believe in fairy tales. Remember “The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money [to spend)”. Good Luck with all that. Why don’t you try reading a history book to see how that turns out?
or just check out a city council meeting.
I don’t know what brought this on but I must correct you. I am in favor of helping others in need. There is a big difference in free handouts and charity. Try reading the Bible and see how that turns out. Charity often leads to people getting on their own 2 feet and becoming productive members of society. When you don’t help people that are desperate to feed, cloth , and house their families, good people will sometimes take drastic actions to do whatever it takes to keep them alive and safe. It is everyones responsiblity to help the needy…not just the democrates.
Seeing what they are voting for and what they support it is my opinion that I can’t see how a person calling themselves a christian can also be a democrat, wouldn’t that be a conflict of interest?
If what you mean as being christian is helping those who can’t help themselves, helping to feed the hungry, helping those who need medical attention, helping the elderly, helping the homeless, and hard working, charitable people, then yes democrates are christians. And very good ones at that. Which of these do the republicans help? Seems to me they want to cut or eliminate all help to everyone except the rich. So with out a doubt being a true christian and republican is not possible.
I have no problem with helping people, thats not what I am talking about with the democratic party, I am talking about legalizing gay marriage, abortion, etc.
I believe that those 2 issue are protected by the Constitution (right or wrong). The republicans want to be reverse Robin Hood’s. They want to take from the poor and middle class and give to the rich and corperate America. They want to take away medicare and cut social security for millions of our needy and ederly population. They want to cut money to education and health. They want us to believe that trickle down economics work, when we all know that it only works for the rich. So to vote republican because you don’t like gays or the fact that the Supreme Court has said repeatedly that abortion is legal would be the nonchristian thing to do. A true Christian would see the bigger picture and vote with his/her heart and not their pocket book.
The constitution doesn’t say anything about gays or abortion, nice try. The supreme court says it’s legal but abortion is murder and gays are an abomination, thats one reason why God destroyed sodom and gomorrah. As for the rest of what you just said why don’t you try to do your own research instead of repeating what the media says, they haven’t told the truth about anything for decades. All you are doing is repeating whats been told to you, if I told you that I saw elvis in a UFO and I was a democrat you would believe me, try opening your mind once and look at the whole picture instead of what they put in front of you.
Maybe…typical republican rederic. You can’t carry on a conversation without becoming defensive. Thats because you can’t back up yor arguements with facts. If you want to live by the bible, live by it. The bible condons the rape of woman (Numbers 31:7-18), and the practice of slavery (2 kings 23: 20-25). How about human sacrifice (Leviticus 25:44-46)? Murder is sometimes condoned and sometimes forbidden in the bible. Theft is generally forbidden, (but not always), working Saturdays is forbidden (according to Exodus), yard work on Saturdays is pretty much an abomination. The bible never mentions same sex relations between woman. So is that ok?
What makes Leviticus 18:22 more important than 1 Timothy 2:12 – women should not express themselves but be silent?
Matthew 8:5-13 Jesus openly heals a gay.
My point being if you are going to live by the bible live by all of it. You can’t just pick and chose.
As far as abortion goes there are 9 men who are much smarter than we are that says it is protected in the constitution. LIVE WITH IT. My guess is you are in favor of the death penalty and if so you want it both ways there too.
You can’t win this arguement because you are wrong. I have said all I will say about this. I have wasted to much of my time on your narrow mindness already.
I don’t know what your bible says but all mine says was that Jesus healed the servant of a centurion, it says nothing about him being gay. That’s the only verse I looked up and I figure if you were off about this one. I am not too crazy about Romney but I looked at them all with an open mind and what I see is that Romney is the lesser of the 2 evils, what I see is that Obama is evil period. At least I have an ope mind and it isn’t closed.
why? don’t know. It’s a meeting of a retired and aged.Hope Matt shows up.
From statue decisions by our city council .
Bad hiring at our fair grounds.
Attacks on the media that exposes them.
Bad treatment of new business.
Grand Marshallships that are bought.
this town is in ruin.
Marvin Hamlich didn’t write The Way We Were. A husband and wife team did. And when he was here a few years ago someone said they were in the Bagel Depot and Hamlich came in and tried to but in line. Arogant ass. Okay we are hicks but only we can say it.
You are so right. It wasn’t written by Marvin Hamlich. The music was scored by Marvin HAMLISCH. The lyrics were done by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. Someone said you had lettuce in your teeth last night, but I can’t reveal my source.
Ron Paul is our only hope.
I will pray every day that you are wrong. The man truely scares me.
Wort the time to read: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/brent-bozell/2012/08/07/bozell-column-media-built-obama
Worth… dad-gum fat fingers. 🙂
Romney will fail this country if he is elected.
Check that, I believe you meant to say if Obama is re-elected!
Ron Paul is our only. Many people say Socialism works but it can’t work with the inflation of the Dollar.Every single second as of right now we are printing Fake Money.
Unless you make more than 200K a year you will be doomed if Mitt wins. I unfortunatly don’t make that much. If you want to see a stronger middle class, as I do, vote Obama in 2012.
Ya the Behms are innocent what the fu– is wrong with you people just because the attorney general & the county attorneys consider this a soft crime & not important does not mean it didn’t happen you f— dumb asses embezzlers do this & get away with it because there is no consequences, get a f—– clue, they wont even lock up the child molesters, does not mean it didn’t happen & i’m sure the owners of community motors just misplaced 100s of thousands of dollars all you none business owners should just shut your fu—- pie holes i’m quite sure if your neighbor took $5.00 from any of you winey asses you would look at this quite differently.
I’m so happy the Behm’s are getting some of those charges dropped, I could do naked jumping jacks!
I see most of the charges against the Behms have been dropped “in the interest of justice and to simplify the cases”. Ya, right. From what I’ve heard, it’s called lack of evidence. They still need more time for discovery so it will be interesting to see if this case ever makes it to court.
Seems as if the attorney general is trying to save face.
Bet they turn around and sue Community after this is done. At least they will have their mugshots for a family photo grouping.
I guess some people can just buy their way out of everything. Sad. These men need to be punished, but it looks like it isn’t going to happen.
I’m glad they are dropping some charges. Their boss is a crook & they should sue him after all this is over with.
I see the Clear Lake City Council is temporarily allowing the South Shore Inn patrons to park on the north side of the public boat approach. I understand the city wanting to help out a new business, but maybe they should have figured out parking before the establishment opened. Feel sorry for the residents nearby. Also weird to me that hotel guests would not be bothered by people drinking and bands playing outside their window. Clear Lake needs a place like The Landing though, to be continued…
Saw online this a.m. that the State Fair ppl denied a request by a group of volunteers wanting to hand out informational fliers on Lyric Cook & Elizabeth Collins. They even tried renting space at the fairgrounds and were denied. The fair ppl said if they allowed them, then they’d have to allow other ppl w/ missing kids (oh the horror & tragedy…bringing awareness of missing kids).
Acknowledging this great tragedy, I think this loss has had it’s share of media coverage. Allowing anyone with money to rent space without discretion is a great way to ruin our state fair.
Why aren’t all you people who object to the sculpture project over on the GG site writing comments in response the Skipper article? You have a chance to be heard and read by people who don’t read this site, yet there are only a couple comments over there. Get your butts over there and voice your opinions in an articulate fashion without using profanity and without being sarcastic. Just state how you feel about it and why. This community is going to think everyone thinks the sculpture is a wonderful idea unless people comment to the GG how they really feel about it.
I have tried writing the GLOB but the refuse to print anything they disagree with. Why try??
I respectfully disagree. The Globe’s comment section will weigh about as much as wet toilet paper in peddling influence on items important to you.
If you want results, contact the mayor or the city council! If enough hammer the elected officials on the subject of art, “they’ll get the picture.”
I did – I don’t want to be the only one who did!!!

Peter children- I am from charles city. Your name sounded familiar. Miss Conway was a young lady back then.. I knew her step brother Barry. I remember the Spurgens exposure deal. That and a few other stores.. You got paid $1250 because burton didn’t have proper evidence to convict you…….Victor Dunn was a great policeman but was in the same boat as Burton.. I KNEW that your name was familiar
Tell us more!!!!
Whether or not this is the same person….

Yes, inquiring minds want to know.
My wife is from Mason City as well. She remembers a Peter Children that got caught as a flasher. But this might not be the same one.
Freedom rings!! All hail the Red, White, and Blue! 4 wheel drives, bud light, and skimpy little shorts on a hot summer night. Did I forget to mention Toby Keith? YEEEE HAWWW!!
Poor president obamination !!
If he gets reelected, look at the mess he’s going to inherit !!!
Was on Monroe Ave at 6:55 this morning Black man came flying by in white Chevy Impala must of been going 80-90 mph slow down you f#cking idiot you could of killed someone,I’m sure you have no lisc.or ins.I was hoping that a cop was around you would have gone to jail. Also nice job turning east on 12th street.
Anyone noticed how green the grass is driving out by the social security office across from Menards? Why does a federal building need an irrigation system and the associated costs (installation, water bill, mowing bill, winterizing)??? I bet their water bill easily approaches $200 to $300 per month. What if every SS office in the US spent this same amount? And they want us to pay more taxes!? When the government can prove they are spending our money wisely, I’ll be happy to increase my share.
You should ask the same of Alliant. They arent a goverment agency but just as wasteful. I’m sure you pay your share to Alliant.
YOU HAVE GOT TO LOOK UP THE LYRICS TO THAT SONG Helen Meyer just posted!!!Do it, just do it and see what you think!!
The Surf Ballroom is bringing in BOW WOW.
This is family entertainent?
Recently Mr. BOW WOW has been sued by a french stripper, yes a stripper, claiming the performer stole her stripping routine and put it in his act and videos.(
This is family entertainment?
His videos are rauchy at best. (Drank in my cup video)
GOOD CLEAN FUN SURF BALLROOM…………..NOT
this mans show is PG18 at the best.
For some reason, kids today would rather listen to music from losers and gangsters who emulate life in prison.
If you talk like them, if you act like them, if you dress like them, you must be one of them. And you will gain the same level of respect as one (which is about nil).
Certainly, there are far better role models out there who if you emulate them, will get you far in life. Or, you can play follow the gangster, and end up in dead ends like they do. Your (and your parents) choice.
What and where do you want to be in 10 years? Twenty years? Be like a gangster, you will end up nowhere.
Problem with some kids is their parents don’t know where they are or what they do.Most of the time it is only one parent at home or either one or both parents in jail or on Meth. But there is also alot of good kids out there also. You can tell how they are raised at home by the way they act in front of others.
I could not believe this when I saw it. What are the people at NIYC thinking? Family entertainment? I just tried to e mail lyrics to them but there is no way to contact them. Goes against everything in their mission statemant
I saw BOW WOW three months ago with my kids. The whole show was nasty.
Terrible choice Surf.
Surf’s decision to allow Bow Wow is a doggie one.
I thought the Surf had a credo, guess not!!!
Does anyone know the law on houses that are tagged? I know of someone in my neighborhood that there house is tagged and they are living in the garage, with their kids. Makes me wonder how they are taking baths or going to the toilet.
Sounds like these people could use someones help,I would probably bet they really don’t have a choice.
I’m sure they could use some help. But both the parents smoke. If they are that destitute, then they shouldn’t be smoking cigarettes, they should be taking care of their children.
Oh my God they smoke!!! Beter through them in jail
I think the point is…if they are in that fuked up of a situation, any and all money they have should be going to improve the situation for the children and not for the selfishness of smoking a fukn cig. I would expect that this would be common sense for you but obviously not. I hope you don’t have children if you are unable to see the problem with this.
The point is this, these people obviously cannot and do not have the means to take proper care of their children, but they have the money to buy cigarettes. It makes me sick that these people are living in their garage, their kids are filthy, and the parents just keep puffing on their smokes. I don’t smoke, but when I checked at the store cigarettes are anywhere from 6 to 7 dollars a pack. It is neglect for these parents to not provide for their children and buy cigarettes instead of putting a roof over these children’s heads.
I couldn’t agree more Anonymous. It’s pretty pathetic if you ask me.
Well that was quite a fair meeting last night. The same ole same ole was happening till one gentleman from Hootenanny Inc started talking. Wow. A bright shining star..finally!
I was dissappointed in the fair boards thinking that the numbers at the fair were satisfactory. In honesty, they were terrible. It was the first time I got to see David Green, not impressed, very hum drum. Yes, the person from Hootenanny stole the show, was exciting to listen to, and truly had a vision, the ONLY vision. Too bad he wasn’t availible for hire.
I hope this fair moves forward. I do like Dennis Higgins, he wants in his heart to lift the fair and let it grow.
Our precious community is struggling and our fearless leaders want to spend money on crap that increases our property taxes but doesn’t bring any jobs. Stop spending us into oblivion. It’s like they have this creepy planned community they came up with and they won’t stop no matter if it bankrupts the people and they don’t care what the people want. Do they ever get out and see what the average citizen wants? I can tell you it isn’t art okay?
#2000 comment… thats all i wanted!! its been my dream!
!
What going on down the street from fareway? stand off what I am hearing…. Do u know with who and why? If any kids r in the home I sure hope not.
I noticed yesterday that the corn is really turning brown. I have been very worried about the farmers and now I’m seriously concerned. We had some local sweet corn yesterday that was delicious, but what is happening with beans and corn? Can anyone give me a local crop report? I know a lot of you dislike farmers, but as a former lender, I know how weather can affect them. I saw that farmers in NW Iowa are just cutting their crops. I hope it doesn’t come to that around here.
I will get someone to put it out on the radio just for you. Tune in.
This year has been a strange year for the crops. The saying is knee high by the 4th of July but this year it was head high. I have seen some fields where they are already combining the fields, this year the crops seem to be ahead of normal in some places. I am not saying that they have not been effected by the lack of rain, the farmers are doing what they can so save as much as they can.
@maybe-I think if you were to check you would find that they were chopping corn into silage not piking corn. I just returned from Southern Kansas and the corn looks like it would at the end of November. It is completely gone. They are chopping it and plowing the ground (which I don’t agree with) if the wind comes up they will create another dust bowl. It is terrible to see, whole crops gone and no grass to feed the cattle. Food prices WILL go up and of course 1/3rd of what we get goes into gasoline. Boy is that smart.
Using it for silage doesn’t do us any good but at least it’s good for the cows come winter. I didn’t actually see a combine out in the fields but I did see a couple gravity wagons and the corn was cut so I just assumed. I wonder if it can still be used for ethynol.
Here’s some information for those interested in the crop conditions:
Some things you can look for – when the corn plants leaves start rolling up (looking similar to a pineapple) the plant is suffering from dehydration. Corn rolls it’s leaves up to conserve water. Some hybrids have naturally rolling leaves, so you need to make your observations all crop year long to be a good judge of condition. The corn’s leaves will unroll if rain happens. As long as the plant remains green, it can recover; when the stalks start turning brown at the base, the plant is “firing” – the plant is drying up so much the green is dying off. Once this stage has been reached, the plant will not recover if rain happens; if you look at the ear of corn, once the silks turn brown, the pollination has taken place. Rain is needed to fill the kernels of corn out. Once the ears have matured, the normally pointing up right ears will begin to tip downward. Doing this, the corn plant keeps the kernels dry. Late in this process the husks around the corn will loosen, allowing air to dry the kernels of grain. As a general rule, the ethanol plants will not accept corn wetter than 16% moisture (15% is ideal). The grain elevators will want corn no wetter than 15%, or they will charge the grower to dry the corn down to 15% so the corn will store in the bins.
If you take an ear of corn and husk it back, and the kernels look like those on an ear of sweet corn, the kernels are said to be in the “milk stage” – a term referring to the fact the inside of the kernel is juicy and when squeezed, will produce a milk-like juice. After a while, the tops of the kernels will deflate or “dent” – this is a sign the kernel has begun the drying process. If you snap an ear in two, then look at the “heart” of the kernel which has the white starchy center towards you, you can see a “milk line” as the kernels dry. The line goes across the kernel left to right if you hold the kernel upright, and will move down to the base of the kernel that was attached to the cob as the kernel matures and dries. Once the milk line has reached the bottom, the corn is physiologically mature, but still needs to dry. Corn can be chopped for dairy and beef cattle once the milk line appears.
Just read Blue Zone article in Globe that they hired 5 people to run the blue zone in MC.They said they need to get 20% to participate to be good for the community you would think it would have to be at least 50%.Just seems to be more racket just to make thing look better than it is around here.Hopefully good will come out of this.
This “BlueZone” is going to be another feel good warm fuzzy for some people. But the reality is in the end it is just more bulls**t that the taxpayers will end up funding one way or the other
I see a man’s wife is suing a bar for serving her husband drinks that intoxicated him, causing him to kill a man when he drove drunk. What do you all think about that? Wasn’t it his personal responsibility to quit drinking if he was going to be driving? Shouldn’t he have called a cab if he was drinking? Is it fair for them to blame a bar instead of the drinker? Shouldn’t we all have to answer for ourselves and not point the finger at someone else when it comes to the choices we make when it comes to alcohol, tobacco, and drugs?
It is actually illegal for a bar or store to sell alcohol to an intoxicated subject. So unless they can prove he drank somewhere else before the wreck they better get out their checkbook.
I do believe the Sidewinder had to deal with this issue years ago.
Personal responsibility is a great thing, however the courts have decided in a few cases, there is cause to hold an establishment and agents of that establishment liable for over-serving. These are so-called Dram Shop laws.
Lawyers love these kind of cases.
The person drinking and his family can’t sue the bar as they are also at fault but the family of the man that got hit can.
So what if someone is so overweight and in bad health from eating fast food that they have a heart attack. Can they sue McDonalds? Or should McDonalds refuse to serve them when they see that the customer is getting too fat? Same thing right?
Why blame yourself for bad choices when our laws let us blame others, yay America!
I’m so frustrated, Matt. The CAPTCHA CODE has become a GOTCHA CODE. I tried 10 times to post a response and couldn’t get the job done. It was the first post in hours, so it wasn’t a too fast thingy.
It was on the Blodgett article that I can’t post.
I’m sorry. Can you close your browser and re-start it, and if that does not work, please re-start your computer and try again.
The government wants to control everything. Check this out….

I’ll keep my guns and my freedom. Not sure about the rest of you. Oh, and if O gets re-elected…there’s a whole list of freedoms of yours he’s coming after. Start your research and see what’s going on BEHIND the scenes, it may shock you. Yes, even you O supporters. Even you.
People, on many occasions, have complained that NIT only posts negative, hazard type articles. Most everyone knows how the media works. You print what people read, and to help prove what they read is by the commments. If all of you will notice, there are always many comments under the arrests, contraversial, political and bad mouthing articles, but where are the commments when a new business opens, or a helping hand is held out, or a good somaritan stops and does a good deed? A fair, festival or fund raiser, many things happening without fists, guns or police officers, but also no interest to slap a guy on the back, say good job, congratulations or just to say, “Hey, there are good people out there.”
There is too much complaining and NOT enough of community support and ways to help the Fair grow!! You expected a new manager to come in and wave a Magic Wand and get it back to how you remember it years ago. News Flash it took several years and a con artist to run it in the ground. And unless you can grow money trees or have a millionaire in your back pocket you as a community are going to have to help revive it again. That means instead of complaining offer ways to support it with sponsors,grants,donations,etc.. Go to the fair planning meetings, give your time and ideas. It isn’t going to happen overnight and remember we all look for the word FREE and unfortunately we as business men and woman look for more income so entertainment is NOT FREE!!!! So, with the fair just starting to see daylight after recovering from a scam, where do you think the extra income is going to come from? They have to pay the bills, get ready for another fair. Quit Whining and complaining and start helping. you can even put your help ideas on Facebook.HELP instead of trying to continueally tear it down. Negativity gets you nothing Positive actions bring bigger and better things in the future!
I hear a lot of Moaning and groaning about how the fair is not what it used to be. I also hear a lot of folks say good things too. It took severval years for it to go downhill and the financial debt that occurred due to a con artist. Then a new manager comes on board to help revive it and you think it is going to happen overnight!!! Are you Serious? He is and has not got a million stashed to bring it back in one year! There are priorities! Night storm may have Poor ads but they bring revenue and they are a safe haven for teenagers nothing bad has ever happened while at the D
Safe Haven? NOt from what I’ve heard from other parents of children that have gone to these dances. I don’t want to get too vivid, but what goes on at these dances is not for 15 year old girls.
Wasn’t the new fair manager a PRISON executive? How does that qualify as someone who can turn a fair around? What a joke.
Put your head back in the sand.
If I ever want a dress or free quote for auto insurance, I just need to look through the comments on NIT. THANKS!
Yes, a few spammers are zeroing in on NIT due to the high traffic we get. I’m working on solution. Sorry about this!
@Anonymous – your employer doesn’t shut off your air conditioner or heater during working hours either . . .
If you look at a one of the Century Link truck in Mason City one of the guys driving it has it running when he is in having breakfast or lunch. In the winter he keeps the heat on in the summer he keeps the AC. People make me sick when they waste company money because it is the consumers that end up paying next time. I am getting his plates and calling the company they may not do anything but it will make me feel better.
No put if he had to be buying his own gas he wouldn’t be doing it!!!
Durring my service technician days, the A/C would remain on when sensitive parts were in the vehicle. Also when there was time spent on the computer, time spent on the phone with dispatch, time spent on the phone with a customer troubleshooting, and time spent performing paperwork involved with work (billing, inventory, expenses, and other record keeping required by law).
I bet them pholks at Century or Mediacom can account clearly for their time, as that is how they are paid, and what they are paid for.
I was in a local cell phone store this spring, and watched a Alliant Energy employee (he had a Alliant shirt on and the Alliant truck was in the parking lot) spend over 30 minutes discussing his teen aged daughters text messaging habits.
I kept thinking this is why I pay my overpriced utility bill!!!! I wish I could take care of my personal business on company time!!!!
LMAO. I love it how everyone thinks a tougher gun law is going to fix the world. A criminal by definition does not obey a law so it’s an oxymoron to put your faith in a law. Don’t agree? The law hasn’t seemed to stop you from texting and driving and you are more of a “law abiding citizen” then the class of people we are worried about in respect to a gun law. If it doesn’t stop YOU what in the hell makes you think it’ll stop THEM. Ignorance and hypocrisy….They seem to go hand in hand. lol.
Strange that’s how the democrats think, instead of using common sense lets pass a law that will have no impact whatsoever but look good on paper.
Maybe: You are so correct in your thinking about democrats. I would also add, democrats feel and think that if you throw money at the problem, the problem will solve itself and go away.
I like Chris Rock’s idea. Instead of new gun laws charge $5000.00 for each bullet. Something needs to be done to stop all the senseless shootings that have been going on. The NRA and gun owners don’t seem to have any ideas about how to stop it. It shouldn’t be harder to buy and operate a car than it is to buy and operate a gun. Just how many senseless killings by guns have to happen until gun owners and the NRA have had enough? I for one believes that it is time for some sort of action.
Your car theory doesn’t hold any water. It’s easier to buy a car and operate it than it is to buy and operate a gun. Unless you are a criminal and you are doing it ILLEGALLY. So the stupid law already doesn’t work for you. Are you listening? Haven’t we covered this at least a hundred times. You will NEVER take guns from us. You can wish in one hand and piss in the other and you know what one will fill up faster. Sorry.
My Voice…how often do you have to register your car, did you have to take a test to drive it, and do you have a drivers licenes that you have to renew? If you own and drive a car the answer is yes. What do you have to do to buy and keep your gun? So yes, the arguement does hold water you moron.
Happyguy, if they ever take our guns away you will be so happy but when they round up all those that disagree with what they believe and march them off to the gas chambers you will say why doesn’t anybody do anything. You think that taking way all the 1 thing we have to defend ourselves against another hitler is the answer to all your problems will do nothing but cause more problems in the long run. I don’t want to be the one to tell you I told you so but I will.
Hey, I just wanted to see what it felt like to make stupid ass comments that don’t make any sense so I could understand YOU better. Thanks for playin. 🙂 Hook line and sinker…thanks for helping set that up for me…You calling anyone a Moron is like Rosie O’Donnel calling someone else FAT.
But, since you still haven’t learned anything…
Let’s see here, for my registration, I write a check…Wow, any retard can do that. ANY criminal too. Ok, I never had to drive to get my D.L. I only took a written test (when i was 16 mind you). Which any dumbass could pass. So that shit wasn’t hard. For my driver’s license renewal, I write a check…damn this car owning shit is damn hard.
Now, to get my permit to purchase a gun. I had to pass a NICS background check (which is every 5 years and every time you purchase thru a FFL dealer, not just once when you are 16), which not EVERYONE can pass. Criminals and domestic abusers, oh and mental disorder people won’t get by this one LEGALLY. Then, to get my permit to carry in IOWA, i had to take a 8 hour course plus prove proficiency. To get my OTHER carry permit for the other states i have, more classroom hours and more proficiency testing. PLUS MORE BACKGROUND CHECKS! I also test EVERY year with my gun. And I train weekly. So for me….owning a car is EASIER. I’ll give you this though, I agree that private sales should be stopped. ANY purchase of a weapon should be ran thru an FFL so a NICS check can be done. This is a loophole that I give you some water holding capabilities. I don’t think it should be that easy in that manner. So, maybe we’re not as far off as i originally thought! Thanks for consistantly arguing your point. A world without question is a world of sheep being led around by Barak Obama. Only a jackass would want that. Take care. lol.
Anyone know what’s going on with the Italian Garden? Last I checked it said closed for remodeling, but have heard rumors it’s closing as well. Love their food, hope they re-open soon!
I was told they were adding a bar and would start serving alcoholic beverages in the near future. Don’t know if this is fact or fiction but it’s what I heard on the street.
Love their food, too!
This is an interesting article about why people who comment on the Internet are so angry and rude!

Katie, Great article, thanks for sharing that.
I see the Minert gal is in jail for “operating while intoxicated” at the age of 20 ! Harley Daddy help !!!!
Larry!!!!!!
Who cares, get a life!
She is serving her sentence. Let her serve it in peace or comment on north iowa mugshots with the rest of the morons.
ANOTHER Night Storm party coming up at the fairgrounds??? Seriously is this the only way the fair grounds can make any money. I’ve heard what goes on at these dances, and it’s not good! And the radio ads are even worse with creepy Joe Malone telling young girls to get their sexiest clothes on and come to Night Storm. Maybe it’s time to give Mr. Green and the other fair board members a call and tell them this is not an appropriate venue for our young girls in the community.
PARENTS, are you living under a rock? Do you NOT know what goes on at these dances? Your daughters are being pressured into being “sexy” by their peers. You have no idea how far they’ll go to “fit in” and be popular. Wake up!
Night storm is awful…NO way I would encourage my teenager to put on her “sexy clothes” and go dance. Any parent who thinks this is innocent needs to go and hang out there for a while.
A crash in the work zone has closed I-380. Road closed from Exit 65 – US 20 to Exit 66 – County Road V49 (near Elk Run Heights). The emergency detour is in effect as of 12:30 PM Monday. Please plan accordingly if you have to travel through the area. Thanks!
Why is it so tough for new businesses to come to Mason City? Why does all avenues of this city fight these new identities? I have heard and read such horror stories. Why with so many vacant buildings can these new business not find space? Who appointed these “corridor” managers to their positions? They seem to be very immature for these important positions.I truly feel sorry for the businesses trying to make a difference for our town.
SuziQ
Bumblebee Bakery
Hootenanny Inc.
Fringe Hair
Oasis Tan
Coopers Auto
…and many more are trying to make a difference.
But the town fights them..and never offers a helping hand.
Tim, you have to be really good at golf to get help… and buying the mayor a drink at the Country Club never hurts either. That is basically the city’s unwritten policy on acquiring and helping new businesses. This is why they do not want a WRITTEN, OFFICIAL policy on helping aspiring businesses. That would take all the power out of Bookmeyer’s hands, no more free drinks for him, and at that point, what’s in it for him?
Tim as one of the business owners listed all I can say is ….AMEN
….Tim let me tell you our opinion from a new business owners stand point. This new business environment can be explained in one word: NEGATIVE.
You fight all stages of city government.
You fight the older generation of naysayers.
You fight the fact that the ‘old’ money that owns
most of the Mason City buildings, live out of
town, so they don’t care.
You fight the fact that MC hasn’t had a new major
employer come to town in years.
You fight the lack of media coverage needed for a
new businesses to get that jump start. If your
not a realtor or a lender, the Globe cares less
and the radio stations aren’t far behind.
Personally, we are so excited to be here and on the verge of a big concert announcement. We are excited to work with Mr. Green/Jan/Dennis at the Event Center. We found in Oasis Tan, businesses owners that truly care(Web and Cindy Graves). We want to help pick this town up and shake it off. We want to donate to numerous MC causes, not hoard or monies as many successful business owners have done.GIVE BACK. Open your eyes to your community in need. We are better then this Mason City.Thank you.-Ric
It may be tough for new businesses to start up but the streetscape sure helped quite a few to close.
Thank you for the comment, Tim!! I am one of the businesses listed and have to say, as if my rent wasn’t already outrageous, the property taxes went UP for us to pay $2,491.00 per month rent plus cam. The city has refused to lower the property tax for our building, but instead increases it! Sad..
Cindy, the rumor out there is that on YOUR corner (highway 122 and South Federal) there is interest by a large drug store to build there. Have you heard about this?
To make one last point:
We have a awesome hospital and clinic here in MC. My only beef with them is that when they need more space they never ‘build’ new office space, they take strip malls away from possible new businesses that are looking to locate.
MERCY how about looking to the North end and ‘build’ new office space. You spent a fortune removing nice houses for a parking lot, but won’t buy and tear down north end eye sores to build office space you need?
This is the type of project that needs to happen to energize the North end.
I’m looking at a building out my business window, it has 20+ parking spaces. Nice building that with a little remodeling could be a much less expensive fix to the NIACC dorm issue. Upgrade the dorms yes…build new NO.
Matt, I hope you are talking about the vacant lot on the NE corner. If so it would be a welcome addition, However in all honesty, I think we have enough pharmacies in town for this sized market (six).
As well, that particular lot would be reduced if the DOT gets their way and expands the intersection for turn lanes (read trucks). And I cannot foresee the Tent and Awning surviving such a reconfiguration.
I am surprised to see SuzieQ on that list. As far as never getting a helping hand that is. Didn’t they just get 50 some THOUSAND dollars to remodel their business. Not sure what more help i’d be comfortable with them getting. Did I miss something? Could have swore I read it here 1st.
I don’t know how lenders in MC are now, but 24 years ago, the one we talked to was downright hostile despite our excellent financial statement and a profitable past. That bank has merged a couple times since. We had no problems with a bank in Clear Lake.
So sometime during the end of the Reagan administration a banker was mean to you? Great story. I will keep it in mind if I am ever time traveling in the north iowa area.
post
Tim/Ric, I think you may have unrealistic expectations for your business. What assistance are you expecting from city hall? (I opened a downtown business in 2006-I had no reason to have any contact with city government-other than a fire inspection)….As far as the older generation of naysayers go—I assume they are not your demographic so why would you care what they think?—If they are your demographic than you may have a problem. “old” money from out of town owns the building that I lease too. I had no problems executing a lease at a price that made sense for my business. You site a lack of media coverage. I think you may be confusing media coverage with advertising. The media covers news. If you want to promote your business you will have to pay for that. I highly doubt that the Globe or radio is refusing to run advertisements for you if you are willing to pay(like everyone else has to). Perhaps when/if your business does something news-worthy they will cover it, but until then you will have to pay to promote your business/event.
You need to quit whining about what everyone else is doing and take responsibility for the success/failure of your business. I wish you success in your endeavors, I really do, but only you have control over that.
well stated!!!
The Globe wants to wait til your business does something newsworthy…are you serious?
The Globe did an article about Fed^ North Iowa like 3 days after they inflated their members by inviting ppl to their group and the Globe said over 5000 people supported the admins vision. Then the Globe was proven to have jumped the gun on the whole article thru comments that the Globe deleted, repeatedly.
Since then of the 2 original admins only one is connected to the fb page, the other quit after she was arrested on a weapons charge. The 2 admins added after the Globe article have gone silent. The original page was suppose to be deleted wks ago, but its 2nd replacement page only has around 140 followers.
And the fund raiser…Booze it ^ N. Ia….was never followed up on. No word on how much money was raised or how many people showed. Actually the same could be said for their shirt scam, er sales. No word on amt actually ordered and how much money was raised thru that venture.
The Globe will write articles promoting things, even when its not worthy of any attention. So why not legitimate locally owned new businesses? Probably because that doesn’t fit in with their agenda…whatever that is. Their coverage is very contradictory/hypocritical in nature. The Globe wants to wait til your business does something newsworthy…are you serious?

skeptic—I am not endorsing the globe or the job that they do at selecting stories that they feel are newsworthy. But I stand by my statement that if you want to promote your business you have to purchase advertising just like any other new business(including mine).
….and thank you for your comment Mayor.
I happened to catch Piers Morgan last night and Michael Moore was his guest. Michael Moore was comparing gun crimes and killings in the United States to other countries. Japan had only 70 or so gun crimes, Australia 65, Canada 150, Germany 265, and the United States in the thousand, over 10 thousand. I truly believe that guns are destroying our country. And I don’t mean guns for sport and hunting, I mean the guns that can kill 100 people in a matter of minutes. It’s quite disturbing that anyone can not only own a gun, but can purchase as much ammo as they like. Why isn’t there a central data base that keeps track of gun purchases and purchases of ammunition? A person can’t buy cold medicine without it going into a database, but people can buy guns and ammo. Somethings is definitely wrong.
If you’ve ever seen any of his work and actually listen to him talk you would see that michael moore is the perfect image of the democratic party, the donkeys ass.
WELL SAID ! Michael Moore is nothing more than a Hollywood Communist!
I don’t care what party he is from. Point is that there are just too many guns. I’ve said it many times, any idiot in this country can own a gun. I just thought the statistics were staggering. There needs to be some control as to who can own a gun and who can’t. And no one should be allowed to own an automatic weapon. And I think it’s quite sad that neither Obama or Romney are touching the subject after the shooting in Colorado. All they care about is the votes and the NRA has way too much political power.
Unless you have a federal firearms permit, which requires a ton of paper work and back ground checks, an automatic weapon is illegal to own unless you are a criminal and they can get anything they want because they don’t obey they law. I don’t know the exact year automatic weapons were outlawed to private citizens but if I had to make a guess it was either in the early 60’s or in the 30’s.
Guns are a lot like pit bulls. They are WIRED to KILL. Irresponsible owners of both objects make the matter worse. That’s why “baseball bats” (and little yapping dogs) do not need a SAFETY but a gun DOES.
No really…WHERE IS that safety on a pitbill? Huh Granny?
We and Hootenanny Inc. have heard possibly Wendys was interested in this corner, but we do have a lease, so don’t think anything will be happening soon.
Does anyone think it’s irresponsible for NIACC to think about new dorms now? The square footage on the planned new rooms/suites sounds luxurious. The Globe editorial board seems excited about spending money but that’s nothing new. This seems like the MC events center repeating itself. Every day we hear the economy is bad, college graduates are having trouble getting jobs and no one wants to see our taxes increase on down the line. NIACC has through the years been a commuter college. Trying to attract students here with nice rooms and amenities may work and may not. Anyone up for a gamble right now? We want tuition to go down so our kids can go to school. We don’t need this type of building potentially increasing tuition here. Stop and take a breath and see how the economy works out. Families have to do that with their budgets.
The Globe is always excited about ANY new project. They always think its great to blow cash on any project. Bunch of dolts that cant even balance their own business. Why would anyone give a shred of credibility to them or their editorial board? Which one of them ever in their entire lives ran their own business? I can write all day about brain surgery that doesnt mean im good at it or know about it. Globe should stay out of it.
Have you ever BEEN IN a NIACC dorm room? They are cramped and outdated!! It makes more sense to build a new building than to shut the dorms down (COSTING STUDENT HOUSING MONEY) for a remodel. More students stay in the dorms than you think!!
The biggest mistake this city ever made was moving NIACC out of the downtown into a corn field outside of town. If it had remained, the downtown would not be a ghost town as it is now, but full of vibrant young people in coffee shops and restaurants, living in apartments, shopping at stores, buying gas, etc. A shame that the “not in my backyard” people won that battle, as they win most battles here. As it stands now, anyone out of town that comes to NIACC goes to class and bails out of town as fast as they can.
..OMG you hit the nail on the head Matt, NIACC should have been built on the North end of MC from old the Decker Sports building north. Imagine what a college environment would done for MC business traffic and overall town excitement…
MC makes mistakes after mistakes..
I left one college because it was so far from downtown. I felt isolated and out of touch with the world being too far from the center of town, especially in the winter when you would freeze to death walking and a taxi was too expensive for a poor college kid. I transferred to NIACC when it was still downtown and I just loved it. I was 2 blocks from school and could walk anywhere to shop, eat, and have fun. I would have hated NIACC if it had been way out east and I would not have transferred there. I took several post-BA classes there and hated the drive, the isolation and cold wind in the winter. It doesn’t feel as if it’s a part of the community. The U of Iowa was also great because my classes were right downtown.
I don’t agree. Politically correctness has gotten our society to where it is today. If these people aren’t chastised for their poor behavior, it will continue and get worse.

HAS ANYONE EVER FELT “SAFE AND SECURE” HERE?
OK I am going to share something I seen and would love your thoughts….My girlfriend and I were out Friday night. Having some drinks and dancing. The bar was closing, so 2 am. A woman pulls up to pick up someone. We are standing around ending conversations and deciding what to do next. We realize she has kids in the car, maybe 3 yrs. old. Climbing around in the back seat drinking a 20 oz. Pepsi. My friend and I made the comment there should not be children out this late and then parked in the front door at a bar at closing time. We were hit back with a lot of “mind your business” and “stay out of it”. What do you think? Is this acceptable?
A responsible parent wouldn’t be dragging kids around at that hour, and a reasonable observer would have withheld comment to their group until they could not be overheard by the slacker parent.
In a few words, it is despicable that those children are out that late drinking soda. I truly hope the mother was not intoxicated in some way.
I see calling out bad behavior acceptable in society. However, today it carries a risk. The tendency for a simple situation to become violent is a worry for some who would probably comment, on what they see as inappropriate.
Not long ago, I saw a car full of teens parked in a store lot, consuming goods from the store. One tossed out a wrapper in front of me. So I stepped in and handed it back to the kid. The next tossed a cigarette butt out the window, so I lobbed it back. She became quite upset and uttered language one would expect to hear from a gutter snipe. After she tossed it out again, I picked up said trash, and tossed it into her ashtray (filled with anything but butts). This angered her even more, and as she got out of the car, threatening me, another passerby who knew this ‘girl’ from Worth County put her in her place.
Bottom line, there was no fear to step in and take action in a situation where wrong was being done. People have to learn that the rest of us are watching, and to either correct their behavior, or risk being called out.
A century ago, the scarlett letter was effective in society. Today, people could care less if they are shunned or relegated. They think themselves above societies norms and expectations. Which is sad, because this kind of breakdown will lead to further shunning and decline.
No, it is not playing holier than thou, because of the nature of soceities norms and expectations to drive a civilized and ordered society.
Was it acceptable for you to be out having a “few drinks” and then getting into a car and driving home?
If she was under the legal limit, it sure was.
How would anyone know how “few” drinks are under the legal limit??? I don’t care how few they had. This person still got into a car and drove after drinking and sorry, in my opinion that’s wrong.
WELFARE MOM from the North End, no doubt !
I had to wake my grandson up at 2am and take him with me to go pick my daughter up at work. Maybe she had to pick someone up and didn’t have a sitter?
How DARE you David! What will the hypocrites think? Thank you for not leaving your grandchild at home as other here would seem to be suggesting. But, I guess in their mind (which is in their ass when they assume) when they glow of their holier than thou mentality, it still makes you a North End drunk, drug using, wellfare collecting bad parent, or grandparent in this case. Silly me.
Well you got 1 thing right, north ender. I take care of my family the best I can, I obey the law and I don’t care what anybody thinks of me. My grandson is clean, fed, dressed and has a roof over his head, and he has more toys than he needs; I don’t want to use the word spoiled but it is my job. I will not judge anybody for doing something because I may not know the whole story.
If you had to wake up your grandson at 2am would you have given them a Pepsi? If I had to do this my child would be sleeping in the back not playing. I would also not have park in the door way where my child, your grandchild got a clear view of what was being done or said at bar closing.
No I would not have given him a pepsi but that is me and knowing it would make my grandson hyper. Each parent is different and saying that they are a bad parent for giving their child a pepsi at 2am is judging them and I wouldn’t do that personally because I am not perfect. There has been times when my grandson has had a dr pepper at 2am when we were picking up my daughter but it wasn’t something we did on a regular basis, dr pepper didn’t make him hyper. My daughter no longer works there plus she is back in Ca.
I would say kudos to that adult for not leaving a young child like that home alone at that hour in the morning. Maybe they were called to pick up someone who had too much to drink. That’s way better than parents who DON’T know what their kids are up to and are causing trouble (or haven’t taught them any better), like the water balloon episode last week (which kids were arrested) or worse, that time awhile back where the kids set fire to that cornfield. The adult in the car was responsible for the whereabouts of the youngster….the parents of the minor kids who caused trouble were NOT responsible (and probably have records of their own no doubt).
This was writen by me I am Teres’s mother I wrote this becuse he (steve) sent me messages on my phone telling me that he was going to kill her. it you want I will show the message that I got it you want to see it my name is Amy Hartman contact me on face book in a prvt message and we can meet
I am really surprised at the responses. Thank you for your thoughts.
My friend Paul just had a great thought… I or one of us should have asked if we could get the person(s) she was waiting for so they didn’t have to wait out there long. Or ask if I could help in some other way. Good point Paul, I wish I would have thought about it that way. My first reaction was not really opened minded.
I am not trying to belitle you or your beliefs about this subject, all I am saying is that there are a thousand different reasons why she was there and her son was with her and he was drinking a pepsi. It may have looked bad to you but she had no choice or she didn’t know what else to do.Years ago my wife and I were doing daycare and one mother, her car broke down at 2am and she was a waitress at a bar and she called and asked me if I could pick her up and give her a ride home so I took her daughter and picked her up. I had never been to the bar before which was inside a casino so I took her daughter inside the casino to look for her and then inside the bar. She was working late so when I found her I told her where I was parked and went outside. To anybody inside the bar all they saw was me with a 3 year old girl walking in a bar and it looked bad, just imagine what they thought of me.
One of my first thoughts was, maybe her husband was drinking at the bar with friends and did not think he should drive home, so he called his wife to pick him up. Better than driving drunk! The only criticism I have is that the child should have been buckled into a booster seat. I’m surprised no one mentioned this.
Why is it that a person with a nco is not allowed to contact the other person for the fear of jail, but the one that had the NCO put in to affect can call and say things and tell that person on facebook and NORTH IOWA MUG SHOT that he is going to kill their family and take the baby I do not mean just them but the whole family her mother brother and her older kids and the law will do nothing about it. They will not even help that person go to a safe house or even watch the house. This is just so wrong If any thing happens to the family of this person may be they will think twice next time about not believing this family. I just hope that no harm comes to them at all would hate to see a family died in a fire due to the police dept not believing
The person that has the order issued is not allowed to contact the other party and cannot contact the other party through a 3rd person. If you can prove that the protected party did this, they can be arrested for violating the NCO as well.
Teresa just stop the police report shows why you were arrested and again they offered to look at the computer, but you know you logged into Steve’s account and made threats to yourself, suddenly you told the police no I don’t want nothing done if you look at MY computer. Both reports are under your mugshot.
My sons and I wen’t to do some fishing today. At one of our favorite spots it looks like the city dump. Why is it people cannot haul out the trash they haul in?
Bunch of slobs. Thanks, when the water comes up all that will wash into the rivers. We picked up a bunch of it, but I’m sure next time we go it will look the same.
Enough of the slobs please.
@Homer Simpson. My neighbor works for a local north Iowa business that deals with Alliant. He loves it, cause this company spends, spends, spends. It’s good for him, but he realizes he pays for it in his bill.
He says this company has a fat wallet and they are greedy for more and they don’t seem too concerned with a budget. Not like you and me have to be.
Best news in weeks for MC Alley Katz closed.
Why is that the best news of the week?
I figured out why my mediacom bill was so high… the truck is always parked at 27th and south madison.. 034prb plates.. Does the guy ever go on service calls??
My neighbor works for them too truck seems too be at home all the time. The commercial they run on tv I’d liked too see that kind of service, got to think they have a bunch of idiots working at Mason Cities Mediacom.
My ALLIANT ENERGY bill is a lot higher than Mediacom.
Check out this link, maybe it will explain why Alliant Energy has hiked up your natural gas rate as of June.

The average person at Mediacom doens’t even come close to this waste!
Anyone know what the Mayor was doing “sleeping” in his pickup in East Park around midnight?? (couple weeks ago) Hey he’s the one that told us to snitch!!!
Maybe the wife kicked him out for the evening for not having dinner on the table when SHE got home from work…..(sarcasm)
Was told that both the Mayor and Trout volunteer for the Park Watch program. That could be why he was there. Next time get a picture and send it toNIT.
Has anyone else heard that a new drugstore is coming to town near Kum n Go central?
A man with a gun stopped a stabbing rampage in Utah by pulling a gun on the man and threatening to shoot him if he didn’t drop his weapon. People tackled him and held him until police arrived.

Yes, folks with concealled carry permits can be in the right place at the right time.
If this gentleman had not been there to stop the knife attacker the local police said they were certain the attacks would have escalated.
The buck stops with the head of the Dept of Agriculture. Poor management capabilities? Who is in charge of the newsletter and how will he prevent probs like this in the future? Were the other items in newsletters okay or were they rogue too? The better question for Mr. Vilsack that a decent press would ask is do you believe in the theory that consuming meat is a problem with your “supposed” global warming. After reading in the New York Times how the current administration is managing the press and proofreading what they get to put out in stories, I don’t expect much from the press anyway.
Here is how weak the NIACC Administration is. The Clear Lake school district’s administration punished a coach by making him sit the first week of the season for a public intox conviction. NIACC assistant baseball coach Pete Lauritson has 3 DUIs during his time at NIACC and not only is still employed but was never punished at all by NIACC. Swept under the rug. The President’s son gets arrested in the NIACC cafeteria for delivering cocaine and pot and is still working in the cafeteria today! Swept under the rug. Compare public intox to multiple DUIs and drug dealing. Compare punishment to no punishment. Weak leadership at NIACC.
Do YOU get punished at work when you break the law (when not at work)? Isn’t that the judicial systems job?
It appears that Peter Children’s so called accusations of drug use and drug dealing at NIACC are true. And yes, I think that Derr’s kid does need to be let go.
Obviously it depends on the employer. School districts and colleges – yes. Your employer The Tattoo Shoppe – no.
Interstate 35 Blocked Near Ames – Issued 3:50 PM THURS
Interstate 35 northbound at Exit 116 just north of Ames is blocked due to a multi vehicle accident. Follow local detour, use caution and expect some delays if traveling in this area.
Yikes! Vilsack and the Dept of Agriculture put out newsletter wanting people to go without eating meat on Mondays. The dept’s informational authority was get this: THE UN. That’s why we don’t want Christie Vilsack anywhere near a voting govt position. It’s kind of a bad economy to be hurting the meat producers with this type of stuff, but thanks for looking out for us.
Why in the world would someone from Iowa advocate a meatless Monday? I would think that would alienate every grain and livestock farmer in the state.
To be fair, I read that this was put out by some person who had no authority to do so, according to Tom Vilsack. Ya, right. CYA. Grassley and King are making the most of it.

Did you realize the Obama administration’s EPA is requiring ALL gasolines to contain “cellulosic” ethanol? In fact, originally, the EPA has required the oil companies to use at least 500 MILLION gallons of “cellulosic” ethanol in the gasolines we use today.
Just one problem – NO ONE makes “cellulosic” ethanol. You couldn’t buy a gallon today ANYWHERE in the world! But to get past the legalities, petroleum companies had to buy $10,000,000 “credits” from the EPA so they could make fuels without cellulosic ethanol.
How sick is that? Require you to buy something that isn’t available and fine (TAX) you if you fail to buy it… hmmmm… where have I heard THAT procedure from the government before?
Sounds like obamanomics !
Matt & PC, I just read this article and I know the two of you would not want to miss it. LOLOL Sorry, I just can’t resist. 😉

Poor PL. The City of LA voted to close all its medical marijuana shops. And those poor sick patients hurled profanity at the city council. Too bad all the patients can’t be more articulate.

I am sure it is all the rant over at Peter’s site http://www.northiowamentalhealth.org
Scary thing this enforcing of laws. We should end all enforcement of laws just like Peter wants.
Actually it’s not. BTW, I wouldn’t have believed it if someone told me it was going to be this way. Peter’s site….Ya, really actually pretty damn cool. Like i said, can’t believe it. He’s still got his views, a lot which i don’t see eye to eye with. That’s ok though. You can ACTUALLY debate with him over there and he doesn’t always have to be right! Can you believe it??!! He may not agree but he allows you to have your opinion. So, now we get along fine. I’ve actually been able to change his mind on a subject. Did it by debating logically. Not by hurling insults. Ok, maybe i called him an idiot once. I don’t know, we got into it good in the beginning. I’m sure it can happen again. Whatever, fine. I’m an idiot sometimes too.
You never learn or give up do you. You always have to be right and everyone else is wrong. Is it any wonder the so many people disagree with you on so many things. I checked out your web site and I must it looked OK but I doubt it will last long once people read all of your rules. In the end you are going to be the same kind of person you rant about. Keep em loud!
Anybody know anything about the fire west of Kum&Go North this morning??
The U.S. House voted to pass the Audit the Fed bill today!
how about the U S House passing a jobs bill or any other bill that would help the working middle class. All they do is pass bills that do nothing for the vast majority. DOWN WITH THE TEA PARTY
First, our party needs a president who realizes you can’t talk your way out of something you’ve behaved your way into: He has absolutely NO defense on how he’s stagnated our economy.
The first two years of President Obama’s administration has resulted in over 200,000 small businesses closing shop, putting over 3 MILLION people out of work!
Obama needs to find ways to create jobs, or he will need one come next January!
Another person who has no idea what the Tea Party is about.
so tell me…what is the Tea Party all about. 5 or 6 years ago when they first came on scene they had some very good ideas. Now all they want to do is destroy the economy so Pres. Obama doesn’t get reelected. They have sold themselves out to the rich republican extreme right wing. I wouldn’t be proud to call myself a member of the TP
To me, the Tea Party is about halting wild, destructive government spending and nothing else. We cannot heal this country’s economy with bigger, more expensive government. Government needs to back off and make it easier for businesses to succeed in spite of it. The government paperwork alone related to new health care is enough to break the spirit of small businesses. I can understand why so many businesses will be dropping health benefits. It’s a PITA.
This Socialist Healthcare System is a big deal!!!Look at Canada’s Healthcare System which Surgeries take longer to get done.
Something to think about .
How can gas station raise price on gas purchase prior to new gas shipments? been watching the station down the street from me they haven’t got a shipment of gas in 2 weeks but have raised the price 3 times i run a business and can’t raise my price on inventory purchased prior to new shipment coming in .So why can gas station raise price on gas already purchased and in the tank before new gas is purchased
just something to think about.
most gas stations purchase on contract. or they do not pay for it until they use it. that is how they can do that.
What law says you can’t raise your prices? There isn’t any, unless you’re price-gouging.
In fact, if you want to stay in business, you NEED to keep up to date with your pricing. Otherwise, if, for example, you have 1/2″ widgets in stock, and your price is $1.00 each, your cost is $.50 each. Widget replacement prices suddenly jump to $1.50 each retail; $1.10 replacement costs. Your competition would do well to send someone in to your store, buy your widgets, saving them $.10 per widget. Now, you’ve got to buy the widget replacements @ $1.10, while your competition just cut their cost of inventory by 10%.
that may all be true Dave, but you also must remember that 3 of the top 5 fortune 500 buisness last year were oil companies.
all the examples written here on why the gas companies can charge what they want, are just built in excuses allowing them to charge what they want. raising prices just before a holiday, or raising prices in fear of something that MIGHT happen, a fire at a processing plant, ect its still price rigging, however you look at it. Ive been self employed myself for many years. we all know how to say something thats not exactly 100% true without lying.
I originally thought Bush was to blame for this since he is from an oil state and was in the oil buisness himself. why our current President hasnt done more is beyond me. I feel that lower gas prices alone 4 years ago, would have turned this country around by itself.
My son is in that business and he tells me his distributor calls him and tells him ahead of any price increase. If you watch Mason City you will always see Casey’s going up first and then sometimes Kum-N-Go will follow. If they don’t follow Casey’s will always drop again. I refuse to buy anything from Casey’s as they are always trying to gouge the public. I still remember 911 when they increased their prices by $4.00 in 15 minutes and got stopped and fined by the state.
It may be true they buy on contract and are told of supply amounts, but it was very interesting this last weekend in Forest City, all the stations in town had gas at 3.49 a gallon from about Thursday through Tuesday. Elsewhere in N. Iowa, gas was at 3.39 (which it was in FC on last Wednesday). When the WIT people were getting ready to pull out of town, the gas price jumped 10 cents a gallon. How does that happen? Now that the majority are gone, gas dropped to $3.42.
I heard that alley katz is shut done due to the fact they had their electric shut off. Hmmm?
sorry… down
that’s because, Kathy doesnt like paying her BILLS!
For the bone heads blaming bush, shame on you. Obama is a useless, pathetic, incompetent, lieing, racist. For anyone that still supports him I encourage them to get help. Looks like most of us have known or are beginning to see what a disaster this man is. What about our new health care “tax” just another lie by this fool.
President Bush is a bonehead!
Ignorance
Annony – Bush maybe a bone head, but he’s been out of office for almost four years now. The topic and subject is Obama, not Bush.
Obama’s a Chicago political thug – right off the bat, he took YOUR money and mine, gave it to GM and Chrysler, while allowing them to shut down local dealerships, putting over 32,000 mechanics, parts people, sales staff out of work. The dealership owners lost their business equity without payment; GM then took bail-out money and built a new factory in CHINA! (Who’s the outsourcer in chief? Who’s the fool? WE ARE)
Now he’s raised our tax-bills with ObamaCare tax. Free health care? No way. You either buy health insurance or you’re TAXED up to $2,000 PLUS you still have to pay for 100% of your health care. Got health insurance? Better not be too good of a policy (like those “cadillac” policies unions have) or you’re going to pay up to $5,000 TAX (Remember Obama slammed McCain in 2008 on this issue, then turns around and says, “Hey! That’s a cool idea!)
Decide you need a medical implant? TAX TIME again!
He said recently in a speech that “My Policies are working!” – REALLY? U-6 unemployment figures (the true unemployment count including those who’ve given up looking for work or their 2 year UE benefits have run out stands OVER 15%!); The last two months there have been MORE people going on disability than finding a job… there are more people than EVER on food stamps, and Obama and Vilsack are now educating the Mexican government on how to get their citizens on OUR PROGRAMS!
Where did our noble leader observe his nation’s birthday this last 4th of July? He and George Clooney were in France, at a fund raiser for the FRENCH COMMUNIST PARTY!
In 2012, so far, Obama’s priorities? Over 110 fund raisers, while his own jobs council HAS YET TO MEET! Oh, the jobs council head, the CEO of General Electric, is shutting down plants and laying off workers in the US, while opening plants over sees… nice job, Jeffery!
You may be right – Bush is a bone-head… but if we re-elect Obama, the voters will be joining Bush on the bone-head bench!
Sigh…
Our president’s administration thinks we’re not watching them. Did you know 104 different city, state and federal agencies have been given permission to use DRONES to spy on Americans?
Check out the Google push-pin map to see who can watch you now, without warrants, reasonable suspicion or just cause.

Did you know that a police officer can watch you from an airplane? Did you know they can observe you from a helicopter? Legally? Did you know they can stand at the side of a road and watch you? Legally?
Did you know they can put up a camera at the door to the Front Desk and observe who comes in? Legally?
Did you know they could put a camera on an airplane or helicopter and tape you? Legally?
Did you know they could sit in a Deere tractor in some field and watch you, while video tape is running? Legally?
So answer me this, what is the difference legally, between a drone, and a human being in an airplane?
If you answer both are legitimate and lawful, you have answered correctly.
Again, there is no difference between a Law Enforcement officer watching you with his own eyes, or using a video camera out in the open to do the same thing.
No, I am not talking about on private property where someone ‘may’ have the expectation of privacy as decided by our courts. But, there are cases that allow such technology, which does not trod upon our Constitution, and it’s privacy protections.
Got a ganders this morning at NIACC’s President Deb Derr and her wonderful son accused of dealing dope coming out of of the court house, all decked out in suits, walking with two hot shot lawyers. Did they drop more charges, swept under the rug??
Why yes they did they dropped one count of delivery of cocaine and once count of delivery of marijuana.
In exchange he got a 10 year suspended prison sentence for another count of delivery of cocaine.
Now ask yourself this how many other people did he delivery these good to in the NIACC dorms that where not working for the Drug Task Force? Do not be a fool and think he was ONLY willing to deal to undercover informants.
Now the sweeping under the rug will be done by Deb Durr herself. Under NIACC’s own student code of conduct rules anybody found to be in possession of or dealing drugs on NIACC campus is to be expelled and not allowed on NIACC property. I have confirmed all the defendants where nabbed and did their deals to the Drug Task Force ON campus.
Now Deb do you duty and expel your son, and don’t try lying and saying he only dealt out of your house because a simple freedom of information act request and a little interest from the Des Moines Register could further embarrass you. All should be treated equal in a federally and locally funded school right?
In fact I have already been in contact with the Des Moines Register, now do the right thing Deb.
So, was Colleen Weiland the worthless judge on this case? She always lets the men off easy, so I’m sure she’s done it again.
To the owner of the big brown boxer that let your dog run loose at West Park this morning. My boxer and I are the ones that your dog gave a warning bark at this morning but you wouldn’t know that because you were no where in sight. You had no control over your dog because I could hear you screaming at it with absolutely no response from your dog. Please keep a better eye on your dog or better yet, be a responsible pet owner and follow the rules and keep your dog on a leash. I love boxers and I own a boxer but dogs can be unpredictably when surprised, especially by another dog. I don’t know your dog and your dog doesn’t know me and I did feel threatened so please keep your dog on a leash for the safely of everyone wanting to enjoy a walk in West Park.
I don’t want live in this town anymore. I can’t stand the city council, the mayor or the crime. I don’t understand all the crime in mason and the city council is more worried about trash than crime. Fix something that isn’t broke and can’t fix what is broke. Makes a lot of sense.
You should really live somewhere else for awhile and you would appreciate Mason City. I lived in Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, California, Illinois and Ontario, Canada as well as mexico and Alberta, Canada. I was gone from Mason City for 20 years and then returned because it was home and so much safer than the other places. It pains me to see the same type of A-holes coming in here as ruined the other places but I guess it is a sign of a socialist society. I live in the crime ridden North End and it is still so much better than the other places. Calgary was real nice but was another country.
I have lived in different places Dallas Texas, Scottsdale AZ. and I came back here to live because I always felt safe here. I don’t anymore. I would love to live in a smaller town. I know they have there problems but mason is really getting out of hand.
I agree, your town’s mayor is a jackass! I bought that putz a diet mountain dew in China and he just took it and never said thanks. What an asshole. I hope I see him again someday, I will buy him another one and dump it on his head.
Yahoo! Mountian Dew,what a jerk doesn’t repect you must not be member of Country Club. Thanks for info just lets us now how he treats people.China trip was put together by the Chamber I would think he would respect your kindness after paying all that $ for the trip to China. Thanks again for info.
I too am tired of the crime. I think there should be a city ordinance that if someone gets caught dealing drugs, shootings, burning down their house, etc. Pretty much anything that these Detroit and Chicago people are doing, the landlord needs to be cited. The landlords need to be held accountable for the type of people they are renting to. Maybe with a few hefty citations, they will think twice before renting to gang bangers and drug dealers.
I agree we need to hold the landlords and some of them are slum lords responsible for what happens on their property. These people collect rent many times paid for by the honest hard working people and they look the other way when some of their renters ruin a good neighborhood with their actions. Our council needs to start working for us and not allow this crap in our city
Hmmm, can’t seem to get on this site
no offense but can u blame any business or residents for closing shop, packing up, and getting OUT of this hell hole before it gets any worse???? I cant!!! who in the sane mind would want to stay here and raise a family with the amount of violence that seems to escalate worse and worse with each new incident.. I been here for over 20 yrs, not sure if I’m even willing to sacrifice my new families…
Nope, can’t blame anyone at all. I saw the handwriting on the wall years ago and got the hell out while the getting was good. Although I may have not lived there as long as some, I was so glad to put that one horse town in my past!!
I for one am satisfied with living here. Perfect? Not many places are perfect anymore. But that comes with the times.
When we become more accepting of anti-social behaviors, we get what we bargain for. When we refuse to police our own neighborhoods, and let standards slip, we get what we deserve.
How many times have you watched the guy down the block mow his hay into the street instead of bagging it like normal people? How many times have you tripped on a sidewalk that is sub-standard or full of weeds, and not said a word? How many of you have turned a blind eye towards the trash in one neighbor’s lot?
If it were me, City Hall would get so sick of hearing my voice, they would get an unlisted number. What about the rest of you?
I sit and listen to so many her blame our Police for all the crime. It’s just like the residents in Rock Island in 1983 blaming the City for all the broken screen doors on public housing units. Did the City break them all? Did our Police here cause all the crime?
Be realistic here. You hold some part of the blame, for letting it get to this extent. Now you feel ill used and cry foul?
The silence is deafening.
“If it were me, City Hall would get so sick of hearing my voice, they would get an unlisted number. What about the rest of you?”
I’m more of a confrontational type person. You’re gonna hear from ME…not city hall. People respect that more than the person with no spine that calls it in instead of walking over and talking to your neighbor about the problem. You don’t have to puff up your chest either. Just be respectful. 99% of the time, you get good results. Just be nice. Until it’s time to not be…nice.
Anyway, not tryin to call you spineless there Observer, that’s just how I feel about that course of action. I respect it when someone has something to say they say it to my face. What about the rest of you?
Why do religious people use their religion as a club?
Its the only plausible reason to get people to accept it? If religion were believable, they wouldn’t have to beat it into our heads.
Did Iowa Office Supply close? Sad, so many businesses have closed recently.
They moved to the old US Cellular building by Willowbrook Mall
I wonder about this – the new store in Willowbrook has a different name than Iowa Office Solutions.
They also go by Office Elements so if that’s the name, it’s the same business.
Did you know Italian garden closed? The sing says for renovations but my best friend just picked up her last check and they told her it would not be reopening.
I wondered if the “remodeling” was just a cover for closing. Bummer!! We really like that place!
Just heard today that Italian Garden is adding a bar and will be serving alcohol when they reopen. It had to hurt them, not having wine with Italian food. I mean, they do go together. I don’t think most people knew they could take their own wine in. I did that several times and it saved me a bunch of money. I’ll miss that but it’ll still be nice to be able to order a glass there.
For what it’s worth, I am really appreciating the extra police presence on the north end..
It’s certainly made a lot of others in the ‘hood happier as well.
Just got a word press error…”you are posting too quick, slow down”. WTF?! I’ll post as fast as i can type which is really f’n fast. I’m blogging on two sites at the same time keeping up with two different conversations at the same time. I can’t help it if the thing can’t keep up with ME. Stupid software.
once again MCPD never ceases to amaze me. for as ‘vigilant’ as their patrolling was tonight, i’d like to know how a SWORN officer of the law WILLINGLY AND KNOWINGLY lets someone get behind the wheel of a vehicle and drive off.. Oh wait- I know, because it was a fellow MCPD officer and a friend of his!!! officer (clemus<~~sp) even did a walk thru at a downtown bar- saw them in the act and then proceeds to walk out. front with the two men..the officer who'd been been drinking (frank houdak) was out side the bar laughing joking around with and jumping around naturally having a wonderful time… no harm, no foul right?? WRONG!!! why should a cop get off Scott free for what any other normal regular citizen trying to do while out with friends for the same offense- would have been arrested and charged with either public intox or disorderly conduct for type of behavior in front of a cop!! no no no, not houdak and his friend- nope… they got to drive off in the night when clearly petty and even possibly few serious crimes had occurred.. regardless of who commits a crime the person offending needs to be held accountable… officer of law or not, RIGHT??? where's Gomer Pyle screaming "CITIZENS ARREST, CITIZENS ARREST" when we need him …
They are all doing it …some more then others ..they won’t snitch on each other unless there is someone they all don’t like ….think about it. …
A court of law ? …there would be a slap on the hand ..and like I said it would never get that far ..and yes it was told to me by an officer while he was off duty …said he was not afraid to drive because he knew all the cops and they would let it pass…
And I assume you have evidence that will stand up in a court of law?
Cops are people, too. Are you saying that an off-duty officer should not be able to go have a drink or two with a friend, like the rest of us? Did you see how many drinks he had? Do you see him at other bars drinking before that?
An Open Letter to the Mayor.
There are many needs a lot of other people in Mason City have, let me add one more.
Ten minutes ago, a black diesel pick up truck coming north on Fed. made a turn west to Fifth, within a block it was well over 40 mph and climbing. At the corner of Washington, were two kids trying to cross that fifth. Heaven forbid they had been in the street when that pick up came through.
Mr. Mayor, living down the street from there on washington, we are getting very concerned with the rate of speed of vehicles on both federal and fifth and sixth. Yeah we know we are just rental people, but we deserve the same respect as any other person in town, and thats including safety of our kids.
We do plan on moving when we can, because the noise from motorcycles and wreckless driving has us worried. can we not spare a few hours a day of police to control this? When they are over at Kum & Go, both roads become quiet and safe. but once they leave, it gets crazy again.
as we said, we are not middle income people, but we sure deserve some safety out near downtown.
This government has no idea how outraged most of its citizens are about foreigners coming to this country and not being able to support themselves or refusing to do it! I don’t care whether they are legal or not. Don’t come if you can’t or won’t support yourselves.
I have a friend who is a cop in FL. He has arrested migrant workers for shoplifting. They have thousands of dollars in uncashed paychecks in their pockets, yet they steal what they need. Farmers have to nag them to cash their paychecks. However, they save them up and then buy fancy SUV’s or trucks when they have enough. By choice, they live 20 people to a trailer house with cardboard or plastic for windows and there will be 10 nice vehicles parked around it. They get free everything from our government. It’s disgusting.
Get a life. Not all people of different color skin are bad people. Remember there was a time when only native Indian’s lived here and your people came over here. Maybe you should leave and quit living off the system also. With looser like you, that is why there is no world peace. You think you are better then others, yet you probalby believe in god and jesus, yet you only talk hate.
Boy, you really make assumptions. I thought I was posting this in response to an article about the government pitching food stamps to Mexicans IN MEXICO via embassies. I don’t know how it ended up on Whiner’s Den instead.
I know all people of all colors aren’t bad. I know plenty of bad caucasians to complain about. There are plenty of them in MC. And how am I living off the system? I’ve worked for 46 years and I’m still working. And no, I won’t worship any god or higher power that created this system of life and death.
I am sick of talking to someone on the phone that is name tom or george when you know there name is Haba for Ishiua from India.. I not only want american made i want american voices!!!!!
