The Globe has hit an all time LOW!!!! I can’t believe they had a picture on their website from Gretchen Crook’s funeral!!! And with a short story saying to come back and read more! It is absolutely awful what happened to her and now how the family has to deal with the grief of losing their loved one….but to write a story from the funeral? The Globe has truly shown they have absolutely no class at all.
What happened today at JAMS my son said police search the school and had dogs? He said something about a planned school shooting?? Why NO STORY!!!!!!

Meaningful gun laws. Ha! NRA would not need to exist if the liberals weren’t trying to take our guns. All gun restrictions do is keep law abiding citizens from obtaining and keeping guns legally. The criminals will still have guns. Having the right to carry by law abidding citizens is critical to keeping balance in our culture. Criminals need to know that at any time or place, if they pull out an illegal weapon for a sinister purpose they might just get a dose of their own medicine. I know many don’t agree but think about it. A bully is a bully is a bully, even on the play ground. The only way they stop picking on peple is if there is a teacher there to stop themor someone fights back. Then they are usually cowards. Same for a grown up bully and criminal. If police are around great…..but police resources are stretched so thin. We need citizens to keep their eyes and ears open and their guns close, oiled, loaded and concealed.

I,m wondering how many more innocent people have to be shot or killed by guns before our representatives and senators will stand up to the NRA and say enough already and pass some meaningful gun legislation. When is the last time you heard or read about a gun saving someone from a criminal attack?
I’m coming to Mason City in a few weeks to visit a friend, and I’m a vegetarian (no meat or seafood, dairy products ok) and I was wondering if there are any vegetarian restaurants in town. Lacking that, any good places to eat where I can get something vegetarian? Thanks!

I’ll start it off. I had a GREAT meal at OLIVES on south Monroe.I also had a GREAT time listening to music and playing shuffle puck at Tailgaters.Indoor golf in the winter is a really fun time. There are fun things to do if you look for them in Mason City.

Once he is seated he asks the cab driver to turn off the radio because he must not hear music as decreed by his religion and, in the time of the prophet, there was no music, especially Western music which is music of the infidel’s and certainly no radio…
So the cab driver politely switches off the radio, stops the cab and opens the back door.
The Arab asks him: “What are you doing man?”
The cabby answers: “In the time of the prophet there were no taxis. So get out and wait for a camel.”

This is just my opinion when it comes to things we are seeing in the news today not only in North Iowa, but around the country.
First of all, violence on TV, movies,video games, even on the news. Sometimes national news is more graphic than any movie. I have always been against violent video games, and the promotion of violent video games. Small children are easily influenced and letting them play games where they are killing others is just wrong. Be a parent and tell your kids no to the violent things that can influence them.
Another problem, medicating our kids. Teen agers should never be put on anti-depressants, anti-anxiety, or any of that kind of stuff. They are dealing with hormones, growing pains, etc. The last thing they need is to be heavily medicated.
Medications in that age children can have very adverse effects.
I’m not saying that’s the problems with what’s happened around here lately, but it is some of the problems with today’s youth. Just saying….and just my opinion.
Matt, why do I get a blast of sound for a second every time I load NIT’s home page? It’s annoying.
The folks who are getting the free stuff, don’t like the folks who are paying for the free stuff, because the folks who are paying for the free stuff can no longer afford to pay for both the free stuff and their own stuff.
The folks who are paying for the free stuff want the free stuff to stop, and the folks who are getting the free stuff want even more free stuff on top of the free stuff they are already getting!
Now… The people who are forcing the people who pay for the free stuff have told the people who are RECEIVING the free stuff, that the people who are PAYING for the free stuff, are being mean, prejudiced, and racist.
So… The people who are GETTING the free stuff have been convinced they need to hate the people who are paying for the free stuff by the people who are forcing some people to pay for their free stuff, and giving them the free stuff in the first place.
We have let the free stuff giving, go on for so long that there are now more people getting free stuff than paying for the free stuff!
Now understand this. All great democracies have committed financial suicide somewhere between 200 and 250 years after being founded. The reason? The voters figured out they could vote themselves money from the treasury by electing people who promised to give them money from the treasury in exchange for electing them.
The United States officially became a Republic in 1776, 235 years ago. The number of people now getting free stuff outnumber the people paying for the free stuff. We have one chance to change that. In 2012. Failure to change that spells the end of the United States as we know it.

Earlier today, I was asked by a friend if I had heard any RUMORS pertaining to the possibility of a serial rapist in the area…a man breaking into homes of females & sexually assaulting them. Has anyone heard anything like this?
