Rural Cerro Gordo county fire reported Tuesday afternoon (photos)

RURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – Another combine causing crop fire was reported Tuesday afternoon around 4:10 p.m.

Mason City Fire Department was called to a fire at Ulmus Avenue, one mile north of Highway 122, on October 4, 2011.

Dispatch siad that the caller was a little shook up and had the address wrong and the correct address was 275th Street and Vine Avenue.

This was just minutes after the Mason City Firefighters had put out the fire at Tugs Daycare and Preschool. Nora Springs Fire Department and Plymouth Fire Department were called in to assist with the fire.

The firefighters would have to watch for the smoldering to start back into a fire, which it did many times. They went over the field many times, watering it down. Trucks of extra water was brought in from all assisting towns.

KIMT was on the scene saying that they had come from the two fires in Clear Lake, “They were just as bad as this one.”

Nice, sunny, warm weather is predicted through Sunday. This might not be the last we see of these crop fires.
